Paul Hughes' side made the relatively short journey to Summers Lane, on a sultry Tuesday evening, to lock horns with fellow step 3 side Wingate & Finchley in their latest pre-season jaunt.
United took the lead as early as the second minute, when the latest in a long line of trialists in the form of a returning Hassan Jalloh did himsefl no harm when having received a left wing cross from Toby Little he waltzed past three defenders before calmly slotting the ball past the hapless Shane Gore in the Wingate goal.
United continued to dominate proceedings, and with fourteen minutes on the clock Paul Hughes' side were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the hosts penalty area but on this occasion Little's effort was well saved by Gore.
Just before the half hour mark had elapsed, James Clark received the ball from a quick throw-in some thirty-five yards from goal from where he advanced menacingly towards the home goal, shrugging off a defender's challenge en route, before confidently tucking the ball into the bottom corner of Gore's net.
The game continued at a pace more
suited to a cold February evening and shortly before the break a Wingate defender was cuationed for a crude looking challenge on Ahmed Abdulla before the referee drew to opening period to a conclusion with United two goals too the good.
In truth the second period was a non-event, with the usual glut of substitutions and neither side really creating anything of note.
