I really don’t know where to start with this one!
Twelve goals in an end to end Lucas Fettes Cup tie certainly provided entertainment for those present, not sure the coaches will be so happy with both sides’ defending though.
United started quickly and should have taken the lead within the first 60 seconds as Jake Sobalak found Simeon Olarein on the right side, his deep cross was played back into the middle by Lugnius Zalpys with Josh Blaize firing over from 8 yards.
The opener came after just 9 minutes, Olarein collected a defensive clearance in the centre circle and lofted a perfect ball over the Bedfont defence to Sobalak who chested it down and fired across Sports ‘keeper Luke Russell and in to the far corner.
Olarein himself fired into the side netting from a tight angle soon after before a let off for United at the other end saw Harry Lal drag down a right wing centre and beat Alex Ravenhill only for the ball to come back off the United crossbar to Lal who fired over the top.
Minutes later a fine Ravenhill save kept United ahead, Mohamed El Gromm Brait collected a deep cross and picked out his skipper Nic Osbourne who fired low only to be denied by the United stopper who turned the low shot over the top.
Two goals in 45 seconds, one apiece, soon followed. United netted first with debutant Michael O’Neil touching home a Zalpys corner from close range and then virtually from kick off the visitors dispossessed Jeremiah Debayo on the edge of the United area and fed Lal who fired past Ravenhill with the help of a deflection.
United almost restored the two goal advantage on the stroke of half time when Olarein fired across Russell, his effort coming back off the post to Blaize who managed to find a defender on the line from less than six yards and then the ball ran to Mustafa Ahmadi who saw his shot saved by Russell and that was it for the first half.
Sports started the second half well, the impressive Jordan Sarfo exchanged passes with Lal before seeing his cross fall to Osbourne, hit shot being sent inches wide by an Olarein interception tackle.
Jay Reador then also went close for the visitors before an inspired substitution brought a somewhat comical third for United. Elijah Manning replaced Dean King and within 30 seconds had the ball in the net. Zalpys crossed from the left, Manning got his head to the ball but it went straight up in the air, Russell waved it over, or at least he thought it was going over, the ball coming down on the line before bouncing up and in off the underside of the crossbar.
Five minutes later Zalpys created a fourth for United, his free-kick from the right side was whipped in for the arriving O’Brien to double his tally on debut.
Five minutes later and the arrears were again reduced as a mix up in the United defence allowed Sports substitute Kye Williams to nip in and first home via a deflection off O’Brien.
Two minutes the visitors had another as United’s defence again failed to deal with the Sports attack, this time Sarfo collected on the right of the box and hit a shot that Debayo moved out of the way off leaving Ravenhill no chance as the ball flew into the United net.
Within 60 seconds though United had another, Sobalak trying his luck from wide right about 40 yards from goal, his lofted effort being fumbled into the net by the unfortunate Russell in the Sports goal.
Eight minutes still remained when United hit number six as Olarein raced through the middle, a tackle from Jordan Clarke saw the ball remain in the possession of the United wing back who advanced and slid the ball past Russell to make the score 6-3, I think, was losing count by now.
Three more goals came in the final 5 minutes plus stoppages. Lal played the ball wide the Fabio Azize, he in turn picked out Osbourne who thumped the ball home only for United to respond within seconds with their seventh, Nana Adarkwa raced away down the right side and picked out Jay O’Connell in the centre, the striker marking his return from injury by smashing the ball past Russell much to his obvious delight.
Sports were to have the final say though with Azize firing home deep into stoppage time, entertaining to watch but I think both teams really need to work on defending after this one.
