Hayes & Yeading were back on the points trail just over 48 hours after being cruelly denied a share of the spoils by table toppers Chippenham on Sunday, this time the visitors to Holloways Park were Weymouth who included former Hayes FC favourite Mark Molesley in their starting line-up.
This was to be a game devoid of a great amount of chances as both teams defences ruled the roost for the best part of 90 minutes. The visiting Terras went as close as anybody in just the ninth minute when Stuart Fleetwood collected a Ben Thomson pass on the left side and raced ahead into the United box and despite being forced wide he fired a shot that smashed back off the upright to Mark Cooper on the edge of the box, his shot being held by Danny Boness in the United goal.
Minutes later United created an opening of their own, Callum Adebiyi’s forward pass found Dylan Kearney, the striker touched the ball on to Graeme Montgomery who hit a dipping shot that beat Terras ‘keeper Tom McHale but was just too high and cleared the crossbar.
The final 30 minutes of the half saw a couple of chances created by the visitors, Fleetwood fed Billy Lowes who raced towards the edge of the box before firing inches wide of the target and then in first half stoppage time Fleetwood collected the all on the right side and held it well before seeing the approach of Calvin Brooks who had run half the length of the pitch, the defender seeing his low shot well handled by Boness in the United goal.
United made the first opening of the second half, Montgomery played a free-kick into the Terras area, after a cuple of half attempts to clear, Montgomery regained possession on the edge of the box but McHale was maore than equal to his effort.
On the hour Boness was needed again when Fleetwood and Molesley combined on the right, the former Hayes FC midfielders deep cross being met by the head of Lowes but Boness was alert to his effort and tipped it over the top for a corner that was comfortably cleared.
Boness denied Lowes again minutes later as the midfielder fired in a snapshot from the edge of the box and with just a few minutes left Montgomery beat the Terras wall with a free-kick but it also went wide of the post.
Seconds later Thomson ran into the United box and hit a shot that took a slight deflection off a covering defender but Boness kept his eye on the ball and held on firmly.
A brace of corners for United deep into stoppage time saw McHale comfortably tip over a bouncing ball before referee Morrison drew the game to its conclusion and much as at the Bob Lucas Stadium a few weeks back, the points were shared.
