Hayes & Yeading's first run out of this new pre-season ended honours even down in Hampshire as a late United goal from Saul Otobo saw the match end one apiece after Jack White had fired the home side ahead early in the first half.

With a mixture of familiar faces, new signings and triallists, it took United a little while to get going with the home side having a good amount of early pressure.

The opening minutes saw Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz called into action twice, getting down to save firstly from Jack White and then from skipper and namesake Ben.

It was indeed Jack White who opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he collected a pass on the right side of the United box and fired past Jaimez-Ruiz into the bottom corner.

Ten minutes later a fine Adam Everitt block tackle stopped him adding a second before United’s first real effort saw Matty Harriott advance past all and sundry before firing a shot that beat Fleet keeper Ryan Pryce only to come back off the foot of the post.

Pryce denied Harriott minutes later after the United midfielder had collected a Pat Cox lay-off before skipper Dean Inman got his head powerfully to a Rhys Murrell-Williamson corner only for Ben White to clear the ball off the line.

As the half closed, Jaimez-Ruiz made a fine stop with his legs to again deny Jack White while at the other end a neat Harriott pass set up Cox but the angle was too tight and his effort missed the top corner.

The second half with changes galore seemed to lose its shape often with the crowd spending as much time watching the Red Arrows at the Farnborough Air Show as the game itself.

United’s main threat seemed to come from the right-wing where Solomon Ofori was twice denied having cut inside, firstly by a sterling tackle from Lee Bowen and secondly by the impressive Price in the Fleet goal.

The home side for the final half hour were pretty much on the back-foot although it looked like a United goal would never come.

Ashleigh Artwell made space and curled a 20 yard shot just wide of the upright before former Fleet striker Pat Cox got his head to a Sam Nair free-kick at the far post, Pryce reacting well to palm the ball away.

The equaliser that was so deserved came with two minutes remaining as a straight ball over the home defence was chased and caught by Saul Otobo who lobbed the ball perfectly over Pryce.
