An extraordinary game with 8 goals ended in Hayes & Yeading United's first defeat of the season on a penalty shoot out at The Beveree on Wednesday evening.

Aft
er some initial sparring from both teams, United had the first effort on target. Josh Odunwo played Nathaniel Mensah in on the right and his low cross was diverted goalwards by Gil Cravid. Although Bradley al Kerwividler fumbled the fairly routine save, he did prevent the ball from crossing the goal line.

Almost immediately afterwards, Hampton & Richmond scored with their first shot, as Seth Griffiths got to the right by line and cut the ball back to Scott James who thumped it into the roof of the net.

United responded with good work from Cravid ending in a low centre for Mensah who fired his shot straight at al Kerwividler. This sparked a spell where United were in the ascendancy although it wasn't until the 27th minute when Taofiq Olomowewe powerfully headed in Tamille Roach's far post corner that the visitors leveled. Within a minute, the game had turned entirely on its head as Jalon Rowe's long throughball was hit superbly on the volley into the bottom corner by Mensah.

United had a golden chance to really turn the screw as Cravid beat al Kerwividler to a loose ball and with the Hampton keeper laying prone on the floor, he centred the ball for Mensah whose shots were twice blocked on the line by desperate home defending.

A lengthy delay followed as extensive treatment to Bradley al Kerwividler was required. An ambulance was called and after further treatment from the medics, he was taken to hospital with a neck injury. He could take no further part in the game and naturally, everyone at Hayes & Yeading United Football Club wishes him a full and speedy recovery.

In all, the stoppage took 56 minutes. Upon the restart, United assumed control and a low centre from Cravid found Mensah in space but he fired over from 15 yards. A fine move involving Ahmed Mohammed and Roach put Odunwo clear but outfield substitute Blazje Makowski, who was deputising in goal, blocked the shot with his legs.

The second half started more evenly although Olomowewe got on the end of another Roach corner and the ball looped up, Makowski caught the ball just under his bar. In the 63rd minute, the lead was stretched as Pierre Amichice's free-kick was met with a flying header from Roach.

After a succession of corners, James hit a rasping shot inches over for Hampton. However, play switched to the other end and Roach was fouled in the penalty area. The winger got up to score the penalty himself.

The home side remained lively and they were handed a lifeline when Tom Marr collided with Tyler Wootton as he attempted to collect a routine throughball and Griffiths walked the ball in. Hampton's tails were up. Kyle Janko cut inside from the left and forced Wootton into a superb diving save. Minutes later, they were right back in it as Griffiths burst clear and finished with a low shot beyond Wootton.

United recovered their composure although James did hit an angled volley which Wootton was able to push away. Then just as the 90th minute ticked over a corner from Chapman drifted straight in at the far post as Griffiths dummied Wootton with an intelligent run in front of him.

The game went to a penalty shoot out. Hampton took first and both Charlie Bulmer scored theirs. Joseph Ogugwa added a second for Hampton. both Prince Mbengia and Senesei Koroma-Ice had their penalties saved but as Kyle Janko fired wide, it was down to Makowski to be Hampton's hero with the winning spot kick, which was duly despatched to set off wild celebrations
