Hayes & Yeading dropped to just outside the play-off places as Weston-super-Mare came to Kingfield and gained revenge for the 3-0 beating that United dished out in Somerset just a few weeks ago as two Chas Hemmings strikes either side of Geoff Mitchell's goal for United saw the points go west.

Phil Babb made one enforced change to last weekends side as Luke Williams, missing through illness, was replaced by Kamaron English in the starting XI.

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, chances were to be at a premium throughout although United did create an early opening in just the fifth minute. Frankie Merrifield poked the ball wide to English who nutmegged a defender leaving Merrifield to run on only for his shot to be deflected wide by Jamie Laird.

The next serious attempt on goal saw the visitors take the lead as Jamie Young came for an Ashley Kington free-kick only to be caught in no-mans land as Chas Hemmings got to the ball in front of his marker to glance a header into the somewhat vacant United net.

Ten minutes later United went close when English collected a ball down the right flank before cutting inside and from a narrow angle was just wide of the target, striking the side netting of Lloyd Irish's goal.

Five minutes later Young did well to keep out a 20 yard Hemmings drive, showing quick reactions to dive onto the loose ball as Brett Trowbridge raced in. Young was again in action as the half drew to a close when a corner was worked around on the left before being fed to Kington who hit a first time drive that flew into Young's midriff.

Phil Babb reacted to a rather lacklustre first 45 from his charges by making a double change at the start of the second period with Geoff Mitchell and Anthony Furlonge replacing Merrifield and Louis Dennis.

With both sides somewhat cancelling each other out, it was beyond the hour mark before a clear cut chance went into the notebook, and that was United's leveler. Mitchell played the ball out to English on the left wing, the former Watford man outpacing Naby Diallo to the bye-line from where his cross was met by the stooping Mitchell who powered his header past Irish.

Within seconds, and with their tails up, United again tested Irish when English hit a shot from the corner of the box that the Seagulls keeper did well to tip around the post.

With just eleven minutes to go the Seagulls were almost gifted a second goal when Charlie Wassmer's miscue on the edge of the box allowed Dayle Grubb through but he was denied by the sharp reaction of Young who got down quickly at his feet to smother the ball.

Into the final ten minutes and the game took a swing against United taking possible victory and turning it to defeat in a matter of seconds. Just six minutes remained when Tom Bird curled a free-kick into the box and as the defence came out Mitchell was left but just failed to connect as the ball went through to Irish.

Within seconds a punted ball down the right flank was superbly collected on the touchline by Diallo who spotted Hemmings in space, the big striker hitting the ball first time across Young and in off the far post.
