Hayes & Yeading‘s new look under 18 side dipped out of the FA Youth Cup at the first time of asking although the three goal margin was somewhat harsh on the United youngsters as Chalfont St Peter progressed with a 3-0 win at the SKYex.

The first effort at goal came for the home side on 14 minutes when Gene Elliott collected the ball in the middle of the park and moved toward the Chalfont area, unleashing a shot from 25 yards that visiting stopper Harsh Gupta held comfortably.

Minutes later the visitors created their first opening as a corner kick was played deep to Nrip Lama but his header went wide of the United goal and this was followed soon after by another when Patrick Coyle won possession on the left side of the United area, he crossed deep to an unmarked Marius Brellier but he also missed the target with his header.

Just before the half hour mark another opening for the visitors saw Max McGarvie receive the ball on the left of the United six yard box however United ‘keeper Bradley Wicks was quickly off his line to block the shot away to safety.

Four minutes later United tried from distance as skipper Oliver Davey collected the ball 30 yards out and let fly, his effort being tipped wide by Gupta and the game remained goalless.

As the final minute of the first half arrived Harley Sells for United went closer than anybody in the whole 45 minutes, Rene Barnes won the ball on the right side and played it to Sells in the centre, the United striker’s quick turn and shot going over off the top of the Chalfont crossbar and that was half-time with the score stuck at 0-0.

The first chance of the second half came just before the hour mark when Barnes collected wide on the right side and crossed hard and low to the far post where a sliding Sells was denied by defender Sean McGuiness who did well to get to the ball first to poke it out for a corner that was cleared by the visitors.

Ten minutes later a break out from defence by United saw Sells find Barnes on the right, his goalbound drive from the edge of the box being tipped wide by Gupta and then sadly for United, and totally against the run of play, the visitors broke away and scored. The ball was played upfield out of defence to Brellier, Wicks rushed out to meet him giving the Chalfont player the simple chance of nipping around him before pulling the ball back to McGarvie who tapped home from virtually on the goal-line and looking to be in an offside position but with no flag forthcoming United were a goal adrift.

Try as they might United could not find a way through the visitors well marshalled defence and with four minutes left a loose pass in the United half was picked off by Coyle who advanced into the United box and coolly slid the ball past Wicks to virtually kill of the game.

Credit to United though as they continued to push forwards with little reward and the visitors killed the game off deep into stoppage time as Coyle collected on the right side and he played it into the middle where Brellier slipped it home giving Wicks no chance.

We would like to congratulate Chalfont on their victory and wish them all the best against Kings Langley in the next round.
