Despite United dominating the majority of the play, especially in the first half, it took an 89th minute strike from loanee centre-forward Dejon Noel-Williams to separate the two sides in this Emirates FA Cup tie at Hanbury Park.

Paul Hughes side started off at a lively pace and with just three minutes played Omar Rowe pounced on a poor defensive pass from the home defence and advanced into the box before being denied by home ‘keeper Luke Glover who got down well to block the shot away.

What was to be a rare troublesome moment for United’s debutant ‘keeper Mark Childs came on 10 minutes when Byron Napper tried his luck from fully 25 yards, the stopper touching the ball away for a corner although it looked to be going wide anyway but better to be safe than sorry.

Minutes later Lyle Della-Verde slid Noel-Williams through on goal, Glover did well to block the initial effort with his foot and when the ball went back to Della-Verde, his shot through a crowd went just the wrong side of the far post.

The midway point in the first half arrived with another United effort being kept out by Glover, this time a cross into the hosts area fell nicely to Omar Rowe who saw his drive pushed wide for a corner, the resultant kick finding its way to Jacob Cook who saw his 25 yard drive well held by Glover.

Rowe and Elliot Benyon twice exchanged passes before the latter saw Glover hold his 20 yard effort before launching the ball forwards to Kieran Rowe who took advantage of a rare piece of hesitancy in the United defence to nip in and poke the ball past the on-coming Childs only for it to go wide of the target.

Glover soon after saved from Della-Verde after good build up play from Toby Little and Benyon created an opening and he went one better in the 34th minute as he kept out Little’s poorly struck penalty kick after Rowe had been upended in the area.

Despite this United continued to dominate. Glover saved from Rowe who had collected a Keano Robinson cross and a couple of minutes later Della-Verde played the ball forwards to Noel-Williams who held it up before feeding Little on the left, the wide-man picking out Noel-Williams in the box but his header was too high to trouble Glover on this occasion.

Four minutes from time United had the ball in the Heath net as Liam McDevitt rose highest to power home a Della-Verde corner only for referee Nunes to have blown for a foul elsewhere in the area as the ball came across and the two sides went in goalless at the break.

The second half was in fact to be a much more sedate affair with chances few and far between as a replay started looking ominous with both defences ruling the roost.

Just before the hour mark Little picked out McDevitt from a corner kick, the centre-backs effort going just past the angle of bar and post before the same player went close again five minutes later, this time McDevitt got to a Della-Verde corner first at the near post only to place the ball perfectly to Glover who gratefully accepted.

The hosts only real foray of note in the half saw a free-kick awarded on the bye-line just outside the left edge of the United box on 71 minutes, Ryan Warwick played the ball across to Nathan Cooper but despite rising highest his header was far too high to trouble Childs.

With the game about to reach the 90th minute the deadlock was finally broken by United. Della-Verde played the ball wide to substitute Ogo Obi who collected the ball, in an almost identical position from that which he had scored the winner in the previous round, once again he fired past the ‘keeper only this time Noel-Williams was on hand to touch it over the line.

United comfortably saw out the six minutes of stoppage time to duly add Hayes & Yeading to the pot for Monday’s 2nd Qualifying Round draw.
