Two goals in each half were enough for Hayes & Yeading to progress through to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup at Westfield Lane.

Paul Hughes made four changes to the side that lost at Chesham United on Tuesday night with influential midfielder Scott Donnelly returning to the side after a hamstring injury.

United started on the front foot and it was Toby Little with the first chance of the game. Dejon Noel-Williams did well to find space and managed to offload the ball to Little but his left foot effort went wide of the goal.

Just a minute later, United took the lead with Noel-Williams playing a crucial role in the goal. His through-ball picked out Lyle Della-Verde whose powerful shot beat Kallum Lunn at his near post.

With the momentum with the visitors, Little came close to doubling the lead but Lunn's smart reflexes prevented the ball from looping into the net from his cross and then just moments later, Donnelly’s well-timed pass found Della-Verde, but his shot went wide from 18 yards out.

Della-Verde continued to become instrumental to each of United’s attacking plays. Firstly, he managed to create space to cut onto his left foot before striking the top of the crossbar and just 30 seconds later, his pass found James Clark who was unlucky with his effort sailing over the bar.

Badshot Lea left it until the final five minutes of the half to create anything of note – and should indeed have drawn level. Nick Medcraft was sent through but was unable to test Mark Childs in the United goal.

On the stroke of half time, United did eventually double their lead however. Little’s free kick was well saved by Lunn but he was unable to prevent James Clark finding the net from close range following a cross back into the penalty area.

The start of the second half didn’t provide much in the way of entertainment. United looked comfortable passing the ball and were patient looking for their third goal. Liam McDevitt was close getting a third goal, but his header went inches wide of the post.

Badshot themselves were pushing for a goal and this nearly arrived with Meshach Williams finding Darren Blake on the right-hand side of the penalty area but his shot was off target.

With just over 20 minutes left, United scored their third goal of the afternoon. Little’s corner was met by the head of Keano Robinson, the ball thundered against the crossbar with Dylan Switters the quickest to react, poking the ball over the line.

Della-Verde went close to scoring again soon after. Little was fouled just outside of the penalty area but his free kick didn’t test Lunn in the Badshot goal.

United persisted with their dangerous attacking mentality and sealed an excellent afternoon with a fourth goal. Childs' long free-kick found an unmarked Little who unleashed a ferocious half volley past Lunn following a rebound off a Badshot defender.

The last chance of the match fell to the home side. Reece Connelly was through on goal but was denied by an excellent save from Childs.

A job well done by Hughes’ men as United moved in to the Third Qualifying Round draw.
