Hayes & Yeading’s under 18 side progressed to the first qualifying round of this season’s FA Youth Cup with a fine 4-0 victory over Harrow Borough at Earlsmead on Monday evening.

United made a quick start to the game and could have been ahead within 40 seconds as Wesley Tobino raced onto a through ball only for a heavy touch to take the ball too near to Borough ‘keeper Jurgen Beriaha who was able to block away his effort.

United didn’t have to wait long for the opener to arrive though as with just 6 minutes played, a free-kick was played in from the left and Isaac Ogundere stole in at the near post to force the ball between Beriaha and the near post from close range.

The home side created a half chance of their own just three minutes later as George Impey found space on the left, his centre being met by the head of a stretching Giuseppe Delgaudio who could not direct his effort on goal.

On fifteen minutes, the United lead was doubled. Bruno Fernandes won possession in the middle of the park and picked out a pass to Tobino who held the ball up well before rolling it to Stan Cargill who fired into the Borough net from ten yards.

United stopper Joseph Powell was soon in action himself as a midfield pass cleared the United defence allowing Omar Haji a run at goal, Powell doing well to get down quickly to block the strikers shot away to safety.

Then on the half hour mark United made it three when Fernandes and Tobino combined down the right side, a deep cross from the latter being brought under control by Josh Penemo on the far side, his lofted shot from outside the corner of the Borough box curling perfectly into the top far corner beyond Beriaha’s grasp.

United closed out the half pushing relentlessly for a fourth but to no avail. Jayde Alcendor won the ball in midfield and sent Cargill through only for Beriaha to grab the ball as the United striker tried to go around the ‘keepers dive and then Ogundere was close to a second when he met a Joe Gasper corner on the volley, his effort going just over the Borough goal.

The final chance of the half came from another Gasper dead ball kick, this time a free-kick being met by skipper Michael O’Neil but his header was too high to trouble the Borough goal.

Having opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the first half, United added number four six minutes into the second. Tobino collected a well driven pass on the right side, he outstripped his marker before cutting the ball back to Alcendor who slipped it left again to Cargill who coolly slotted home.

Harrow’s best chance thus far came just after the hour mark when having seen a shot from distance by substitute Joshua Kerr deflect wide, the subsequent corner was met at the far post by Delgaudio only for a well positioned United defender to clear his header off the line.

Inside the final 20 minutes Tobino broke into the Borough area only to be denied by Beriaha who got down well to grab the ball from the strikers boot and then the game closed out with the home sides’ best spell of possession as United appeared to relax on their four goal lead.

An unmarked Chris Day headed an Adam Green corner over the United crossbar and this was quickly followed by Delgaudio beating Powell to a through ball that he poked goalwards only for the determination of Kai Melhuish to deny him a goal as the defender chased the ball before clearing it off the line with the post looming in his vision surely a distraction.

The final ten again saw a couple of chances for the home side, Powell did well to hold a well hit Impey drive and then in the final couple of minutes he again preserved his clean sheet, this time pushing an angled drive from Ayoub Enajar onto the woodwork with the United defence tidying up to end a productive night for United’s under 18 side who now face a visit from divisional rivals Bedfont Sports in the next round.
