Hayes & Yeading's trip to bottom side Egham Town did not go to plan as Paul Hughes' side dropped points for only the second time in 2019, the game ending 1-1 with substitute Rylan Myers netting United's goal in the second half.

As is customary this season, United were quickly out of the blocks and but for home stopper Josh Bramwell could have been two up in just four minutes. With just under two minutes on the clock Nick Elliott laid the ball off nicely to skipper Duncan Culley, his shot from the edge of the box being blocked away by Bramwell with his feet.

Two minutes later Culley found Toby Little who played the ball inside to Lee Barney, United's top scorer seeing his angled drive turned away by Bramwell.

Within a minute United's midfield was disrupted with what appeared to be a reoccurrence of Elliott's hamstring injury and a replacement was summoned from the bench in the shape of Callum McAllister.

Just past the ten minute mark United were given a reminder that the Sarnies could cause them problems as the pacey Brandon McCarthy raced down the left wing and fired the ball low across the six yard box but out of the range of his incoming teammates.

Within a minute a poor Adam Pepera back-pass was pounced on by McCarthy who curled the ball past Charlie Burns but the ball, luckily for United, went an inch wide of the far post.

On 26 minutes however the home side did take the lead. McCarthy broke past 17 year-old Michael O'Neil on the right side before picking out Joe Adoo-Peters at the far post and he rammed the ball home with Burns stranded.

Try as they might to get back on level terms before the break, including a formation change with fit again Elliot Benyon replacing McAllister it was not to happen and United traipsed in behind at the break to no doubt receive a bit of a tongue lashing from the United management team.

Manager Paul Hughes made his final change at the break with Rylan Myers replacing Pepera.

United were to strike the woodwork for the first time in the 52nd minute as a Scott Bridges free-kick beat both the wall and Bramwell only to come back off the post, strike Myers in the chest, and roll wide of the Sarnies goal.

United had a golden chance to level minutes later when Barney was dragged down in the box by Joe Morrison despite facing away from goal and referee Robinson pointed to the spot. Barney himself stepped up and although well struck his spot kick was deflected over off the diving body of Bramwell. The resultant corner kick ended up with O'Neil beyond the far post, his snapshot striking the side of the Sarnies goal.

On 67 minutes Little found Culley on the edge of the box, the strikers' well struck shot being turned away one handed by Bramwell. A minute later Little collected the ball on the left side, his deep centre being forced home by Myers for his first and United's 99th league strike of the season.

Minutes later Bramwell was at it again, this time Little found Barney who volleyed goalwards only to be denied by another fine one handed Bramwell save.

As we entered the final ten minutes Benyon broke onto a loose ball and ran at the Sarnies area, his shot curling beat Bramwell only to come back into play off the inside of the post with the home defence hacking the ball clear.

The final real chance of the game fell to the home side when Jonathan Miller-Annor burst through the centre only for a heavy touch to give Burns enough time to come out and fire the ball away to safety.

The final minutes then saw the ball pretty much entirely inside the home half but United could not find that elusive 100th goal and the spoils were shared as referee Robinson blew to end the contest.

The second half was dominated by United who clearly missed the influence of Scott Donnelly and Liam McDevitt amongst others but the home side had the woodwork and a superb goalkeeping display from Bramwell in their favour and at the end of the day claimed a hard fought point against Paul Hughes' side.
