HYUFC Hayes & Yeading Utd 3
Hemel Hempstead T. 2

Hayes and Yeading United continued their improvement by winning the third place play off of the SJP Community Cup by three goals to two against Hemel Hempstead Town.

On 11 minutes, United produced the first effort on target when after a period of sustained pressure, Ismael Ehui stooped to head Sean Coughlan's cross goalwards, but the Hemel Hempstead keeper was well positioned to hold on to the ball.

Just after the half hour, Ehui had another great chance as a long ball from Danny Boness was misjudged by the Tudors' right back and Ryan Ramsay nipped in ahead of him and his cross was headed over at full stretch. However, just afterwards, Boness again initiated a quick counter attack, again finding Ramsay but this time with a throw. The winger advanced forcefully and wriggled between two challenging defenders before threading the ball through to Sean Coughlan who applied a precise right footed finish into the bottom corner.

On 39 minutes, Ehui was bundled over 30 yards from goal and he took the resulting free kick himself, curling the ball inches wide of the post. However, Hemel Hempstead equalised on 43 minutes when a short corner to the edge of the area was met with a fierce shot by Jordan Parkes which deflected in at the near post. The same player almost scored again just before half time, but Boness dived to his left to tip the ball behind.

Just after the break, good defending by Michael Mbella prevented the Tudors from taking the lead as he got a crucial touch to deflect a goal bound shot wide. At the other end Luke Eley found Malachi who fired a 20 yard shot straight at the Hemel keeper.

United continued to press and both Coughlan and Eley got in behind the Hemel defence but dragged their shots across goal. Coughlan then had two more chances in quick succession but couldn't quite get the right connection each time. However a short back header by Ed Twosingowme gave Hemel their own chance to get in on goal but the shot was lobbed just wide. Boness also prevented a powerful drive from the left channel from going in with a strong armed parry.

On 79 minutes, Coughlan and Orieji combined well on the right hand side to set up Ramsay whose low shot from 15 yards was smartly saved. However, after the corner curled straight out of play, Hemel launched a quick attack which culminated in a low shot from the edge of the area which rolled in the bottom corner.

This didn't deter United who found a quick equaliser, Eley feeding the ball to Dada who finished smartly from 20 yards out. Even then, United's attacking intent didn't wane as a low Coughlan centre just evaded Orieji right in front of goal. The reward came soon after as Coughlan ran powerfully down the left flank and although his shot was blocked it cannoned off a Tudors defender and came back off the bar perfectly for Orieji to loop his header into the net and claim the winner.
