A highly entertaining match ended in a first victory of the season for Hayes and Yeading United's academy team by the odd goal in seven over Hendon, putting Tristan Lewis's side through in the Lucas Fettes Cup.

In the very first minute, Lucas Sinclair went on an impressive run into the box but just failed to get a shot away before being challenged. However, on 10 minutes, Hendon had the first shot on target, as Nickolas Constantinou played a clever little lay off to create space for Mickey White to shoot from the edge of the area, but Mo Otuyo was able to stoop to gather in his shot.

Seven minutes later, White was able to open the scoring, beating Max Hibbins before cutting inside and firing past Otuyo into the far corner. Just a minute later, United almost equalised as Malachy McGovern beat the on rushing Hendon keeper to a throughball, heading past him only for William Lahti to clear before the ball crossed the line. However, it wasn't long before the equaliser came when Dan Edwards broke through the Greens' back line in the left channel and centred the ball. Although Sinclair was not quite able to sort his feet out in time to shoot, in the ensuing scramble, McGovern was able to turn and finish with a low shot through the crowd.

The end to end nature of the first half continued. Sinclair was denied by a Ndue Telaj block and the ball was scrambled clear. Suddenly, White was speeding off down the other end in a one on one which Otuyo was equal to, blocking the shot with his legs. Just as quickly, United launched another attack. Leon Hague working his way into the box from left back and shooting, and although he was denied by Purdue's diving save, Harrison Livingstone fired the ball back right in front of goal for McGovern to tap in.

Hendon went close again soon afterwards, Telaj firing over from a great position, before Livingstone was inches wide for United, firing right across the face of goal. A fine moment of skill just before the break went so close to increasing United's lead as Sinclair dribbled past Baris Ucku before cutting the ball back to Emmanuel Katundu. He was able to move the ball away from his marker with a clever drag back before unleashing a fierce drive which crashed against the crossbar from 25 yards.

It took just three minutes after half time for the hosts to equalise as although Otuyo was able to deny White bravely at his feet, he was powerless to prevent Nathan Mawer-Davis from rolling the rebound into the net behind him.

United responded well without really threatening in front of goal until Livingstone blasted wide on the volley from 10 yards away. Jack Raines then collected a Javier Mato pass and fired in a shot which Purdue was able to gather at the second attempt. However, it was 3-2 on 70 minutes when a remarkable goalmouth scramble with at least two last ditch blocks from the Hendon defence was finally resolved with Mato tapping into the corner.

Hendon were finding it difficult to respond with any sustained pressure but did manage to break away and equalise with three minutes to go, White latching onto a throughball and applying a controlled but powerful finish inside the far post. However, United responded straight away as Grant beat Joshua Kennedy-Bell on the touch line and quickly centred for Livingstone to finish first time at the far post.

White still had time to worry Otuyo with a free kick which sailed just wide and deep into stoppage time, Purdue saved Livingstone's close range shot at point blank but United held out to claim their place in the next round of the Lucas Fettes Cup.
