Hayes & Yeading bounced back from Saturday’s heavy defeat with a much needed victory over fellow strugglers St Neots Town at Holloways Park on Friday evening in a game that saw debuts for the experienced Sahr Kabba up front and Dagenham & Redbridge youngster Leo Donnellan in midfield while top scorer Mitchell Weiss returned from injury and took a place on the bench.

The visitors pushed forwards from the off and could have taken an early lead when skipper Tom Broadbent inadvertently flicked on a long ball to Micky Hyem who was only denied a close range shot at goal by an excellent Jack Smith challenge that took the ball off his toes.

Debutant Donnellan soon after created an opening for Ramone Rose but his 18 yard effort was wide of the target for United while at the other end a forceful run from inform striker Jevani Brown set up a chance for Declan Rogers but he blazed wide when well placed to test Danny Boness.

Just before the half hour mark United earned a free-kick inside and to the left of the Saints box after ‘keeper Alex Archer inexplicably picked up a back pass under no pressure whatsoever. The ball was rolled right to Rose who thumped his shot into the wall and the ball was hacked clear.

Just a few minutes later though United took the lead, again following an error by Archer. David Hutton fired in a free-kick from the left, Archer came a fair way off his line to punch but didn’t make great much contact with the ball before ending up on the deck, the ball dropped nicely to Connor Toomey who lofted the ball back over everybody from the corner of the box into the empty net.

United were to double their advantage as the game entered first half stoppage time, a corner from the right side was partially cleared by Tom Wood but only as far as Donnellan who nodded the ball back to Broadbent in the box and the United skipper did the rest, hooking the ball past Archer from 10 yards.

Seven minutes after the break the Saints went as close as they were to go all evening as Brown broke away in the left channel, Boness was quickly off his line and did enough to force the striker to shoot from an angle with the ball going wide off the post.

A long-throw for the visitors dropped to Lee Clarke but he fired wide from an angle and then just the other side of the hour mark Shane Hill fired in a low free-kick that James Tricks got a low flick to with Boness gathering comfortably low down.

With the visitors barely having an opening all night, it was United who finished the strongest. Hutton and Josh Chamberlain combined on the right, the latter crossing deep to Smith but his volley was wide of the target. With 8 minutes remaining the returning Mitchell Weiss collected the ball and let fly with a powerful drive that flew just outside the post with Archer rooted to the spot.
