Hayes & Yeading’s second fixture of this pre-season saw them claim the winners berth in the Jimmy Hill & Geoff Harvey Memorial Tournament held at Corinthian-Casuals FC.

Having won through to the final the previous day against the host club, United now faced National League South new boys Hampton & Richmond Borough in the final.

As you would expect so early in pre-season, both sides lined up with a number of trialists in their ranks however it was United who took the early initiative with two goals in the opening four minutes.

The first came after just 56 seconds, a free-kick pumped into the Beavers area was headed back into the centre by Melford Simpson, Olu Durojaiye helped it on and last seasons under 18 skipper Dylan Kearney nipped in to fire past Billy Bishop in the Hampton goal.

Minutes later the lead was doubled. Simpson was felled 20 yards from goal, Tom Collins stepped up and curled the kick around the wall into Bishop’s bottom corner.

Three minutes later the Beavers should have been back in the game when a cross from the right by former United man Jerome Federico picked out Max Oldham who smacked the ball against the post from a couple of yards.

Collins nearly grabbed a second but his shot having beaten Bishop went wide of the far post and then at the other end Aaron Lamore saw his shot blocked away by Louis Wells in the United goal.

Hampton did get one back in the 24th minute however when a trip in the box led to the award of a penalty. Giuseppe Sole took charge and duly sent Wells the wrong way.

Ten minutes later it was nearly all square, Wells tipped away an Oldham centre with the ball falling invitingly to Federico who volley wide when well placed.

The second half took a while to get going, Simpson headed over for United when well placed to score before a smart move involving Collins and Simpson almost set Kearney free but Bishop was quickly out to smother the ball.

Just six minutes remained when United scored the goal of the game. A quickly taken throw-in was headed on by Simpson, the ball dropping perfectly for Kearney to hit a dipping volley from the corner of the box that flew over Bishop into the far corner.

Kearney was not finished yet though as the 18 year-old striker completed his hat-trick a minute from time, latching onto a neat lay off by Durojaiye to smash the ball home from 15 yards.

There was still time for the Beavers to add a second of their own, Lamore advancing almost from kick-off to the edge of the United box before firing past Wells into the bottom corner.
