Hayes & Yeading United capped off a miserable 8 days with a third consecutive defeat, this time at Holloways Park at the hands of Frome Town.

The visitors from Somerset were quickly out of the blocks and could have taken the lead in the opening minute. Jon Davies hit a right side corner kick to the near post, Sam Tooke beat his marker to the ball but his stooping header was just wide of the target.

Possession wise things continued in an even manner until the 12th minute when the Robins were awarded a free-kick immediately after one of their own had “got away” with controlling the ball with a hand. The impressive Davies fired in the free-kick from the left and found the head of striker Jake Jackson who helped the ball on with his head into the top corner of Danny Boness’s goal.

Seven minutes later and United were punished for another defensive episode where they failed more than once to clear their lines. Davies’ corner was only part cleared initially, Connor Roberts miskicked the ball back into the mix and after a couple of attempts to clear the ball away it fell to Clayton Green who smashed it past Boness to double the visitors lead.

Five minutes later United were indebted to Boness. Frome ‘keeper Kyle Phillips launched a free-kick down the field, Tom Broadbent misjudged his jump and could only help the ball on to Jackson who hit a superb volley on the turn only to be denied by Boness reaching at full stretch to tip the effort over the top.

United then started to push forwards looking to hit back, Connor Toomey was wide with a header from a Mahlondo Martin free-kick before a strike two minutes later got United back in the game as Mitchell Weiss fired a left foot volley from the edge of the box into the bottom corner with Phillips rooted to the spot.

Soon after Davies broke clear but fired over when well set and at the other end United should have pulled level. Weiss laid the ball off to the on-coming Toomey, his 30 yard effort being pushed wide by Phillips. The resultant corner was met by an unmarked Weiss but his header went well wide of the target without troubling Phillips.

Chances were to be limited after the break with a five minute spell for the visitors in the middle of the half being the only real highlights for a neutral spectator as United held a large amount of possession without really testing the well marshalled Frome defence.

During the purple patch for the Robins a further goal also came as substitute Darren Jefferies broke away on the right having collected a pass from a poor Boness kick, his centre picking out an unmarked Jackson who lofted a header over Boness into the far corner.

Within seconds of the re-start Davies was again on the march, riding three tackles before firing wide from the left side of the area and then a well worked attack that started with Phillips saw Jackson fire weakly straight at Boness.

As stoppage time beckoned the visitors broke free again, Dean Griffiths broke towards the United box, setting up fellow substitute Jefferies who saw his on target drive smack Griffiths in the face, the loose ball dropping to George Miller who was denied by Boness who pushed out his 20 yard drive with the follow-up being cleared off the line although the flag was raised for offside anyway.
