Hayes & Yeading’s ground tour continued this afternoon with our home fixture against Cirencester Town taking place at Uxbridge’s Honeycroft ground.

Temporary Manager Tristan Lewis took control of the side once more making a number of changes from Saturday’s side albeit some were positional as United changed formation.

A bright start by the home side saw Olu Durojaiye pounce on a weak defensive clearance by Cirencester, his 20 yard shot taking a deflection off former United defender Ben Brown which made it an easy gather for ‘keeper Harvey Rivers.

Both sides spent the next 20 minutes sizing each other up with most of the possession being with the home side without threatening Rivers’ goal. United pushed forwards in the 24th minute, Melford Simpson laid the ball off to Jerson Dos Santos who weaved his way into the box only for his effort to be deflected wide. The resultant Sam Humphreys corner was cleared but collected by Cole Brown who swung the ball back in from the right side, Simpson met the cross but his header was too high.

With United continuing in the ascendancy, Rivers tipped away another Humphreys corner that Lloyd Macklin recovered, his cross was headed out to Durojaiye who saw his 30 yard volley take a touch off a defender before going agonisingly the wrong side of Rivers’ upright.

Five minutes later the visitors had their first and only real strike towards goal of the first 45 minutes when a Colin Mugoya headed clearance dropped to top scorer Ross Langworthy, his volley going over and out of the ground.

Still United pushed on for an opener, Brown sent Dos Santos into the box on the right, his goalbound drive being well tipped over by Rivers. Simpson was felled just outside the box soon after but Humphreys free-kick missed the target. Then as stoppage time approached the elusive Dos Santos again broke into the box, this time on the left side, only to be felled by a challenge by Kieren Diaz-Benitez and referee Mr Lee pointed the spot.

Durojaiye again took responsibility and coolly sent Rivers the wrong way a couple of seconds into stoppage time and United went in with a deserved lead at the break.

The second half started much like the first with United holding a lot of the ball without majorly troubling Rivers. Just before the hour mark however he should have been tested when Macklin and Ds Santos combined to set up a shooting chance inside the box but the wide man fired wide.

Minutes later a double block in the box saw Ben Brown block out a Durojaiye effort, the ball running to Macklin who saw his effort well saved by Rivers who quickly closed the striker down.

Two minutes later United were hit with a major sucker punch as the visitors equalised with almost certainly their first effort on goal. It came after an excellent move however, Langworthy sent Ollie Knight into the United area on the left, his effort was palmed out by Louis Wells with Aidan Bennett tapping in from a mere couple of inches out.

This was a real hammer blow for United and the boost it gave to the visitors saw them push for another in the final quarter of the game. While United still saw a lot of the ball, it was Cirencester who almost went ahead on 76 minutes, Diaz-Benitez’s free-kick picking out Bennett in the middle, the strikers’ header being superbly tipped over by Wells.

Ten minutes later it was again the United goal that was under threat as Bennett collected the ball on the edge of the box from Elijah Chilekwa, his shot taking a deflection and going just wide of the upright and that was it as far as chances went and it was a point each at full time.
