Hayes & Yeading’s cup winning under 18 side surrendered a two goal lead and took just a single point from Monday’s Ryman Youth League fixture against Aldershot Town.
United were on the attack from the off and with just 10 seconds played top scorer Dylan Kearney raced into the Shots area on the left, his angled shot being paushed away by ‘keeper James Stallon.
Ten minutes later the visitors created an opening of their own when Curtis John-Cyrus gave away possession to Kenny Alleru in the middle of the park, the Shots player running at the United area before firing across goal and just wide of the far post.
Minutes later United went even closer, Ross Mckernan won possession and found Cole Brown who hit a rasping drive from 25 yards that crashed back off the Shots crossbar before being hacked clear.
Kearney and Brown then combined with the latter’s cross being headed over by Jack Doyle before Kearney again went close, Stallon scrambling his shot around the post.
With United in seemingly total control of the game, Stallon saved well from Matt Sinclair before the deadlock was finally broken in the 38th minute when Callum Keane rose highest to head home a James Smith free-kick, planting his header in to the top corner.
United started the second half as dominantly as they finished the first, taking just 2 minutes to double the lead when the ball ricocheted to Kearney who thrashed home a volley from the edge of the box for his 27th of the season at this level.
This second strike seemed to stun the opposition in to life and seven minutes later they were back in the hunt. United ‘keeper Hugo Sobte went to punch a free-kick, missed his punch and thus allowed Ben House to head home.
Brown almost increased the advantage for United again at the midway point of the half, Stallon doing well to tip his shot around the post and then a minute later the scores were level when Jamel Johnson intercepted a poor pass in midfield before gliding through four attempted tackles and sliding the ball past Sobte.
The remainder of the game was played out fairly evenly between the two sides with neither able to force the ball in for a winner and it ended with a point apiece.
