Garry Haylock's second spell as Hayes and Yeading United manager is still to conjure a goal as his team came away with a point for their efforts in an even contest at Bishop's Stortford.

United had the first attempt in just the second minute as Josh Scott was found unmarked by a deep Max Worsfold corner and his volley was on target but routinely cleared by former United defender De'Reece Vanderhyde. However, there followed an attacking spell by the home team, during which Lewis Ferrell twice cleared from in front of goal, first turning Charlie Sheringham's dangerous centre behind and then blocking Elliott Buchanan's volley.

Another Worsfold dead ball delivery, this time from a free kick, caused mayhem in the middle and it seemed as though Vanderhyde pushed Elliott Benyon in the back before slicing the ball over and amidst the appeals, the referee gave Stortford a goal kick. Straight down the other end, Buchanan fired in a shot which hit the inside of the post before fizzing back across goal and to safety. They also went close soon afterwards as Alli Abdullahi tried one from long range which Dan Lincoln saw into his side netting.

Ten minutes before the break, a quick release from Lincoln was misread by the few Stortford defender's covering and Scott was through on goal. Alongside him, Benyon got in a more central position and Scott found him with a square pass, only for the forward to slip over at the most inopportune time. He got up and got a shot away, only to drag it wide of the left hand post past the covering defenders. Despite positive intent from the visitors, half time arrived without any further incident.

Just after the break, it was the hosts who went close first of all, as Kenzer Lee connected with a far post corner but headed wide. United recovered and enjoyed a spell of continual possession without quite finding the correct final ball, but the game remained even and the home side had chances through Sheringham's, who sliced his shot wide and Church who headed right across goal but wide.

Despite a quite frantic pace throughout, the second half remained rather short on chances for either team. However, United finished strongly and, making his first move as a first team player, Cole Brown cut in from the right wing and fired a shot inches wide of the far post. A minute later, fellow youth teamer Dylan Kearney volleyed a loose ball on target which Tom Lovelock caught, sealing United's second goalless draw in a row.
