Manager Phil Babb made three changes from the side beaten last week by Eastbourne, with two new signings going straight into the team. Central Defender Christian Smith slotted in alongside skipper Dean Inman, with Greg Morgan switching from right to left-back replacing the injured Adam Everitt and Jim Fenlon starting at right-back. Further forward, winger Kadell Daniel, who joined on a loan from Charlton Athletic, started on the left side.

Daniel immediately impressed showing both pace and good touch to take a throughball from Greg Morgan. His excellent cross resulted in a shot from Luke Williams, back in his favoured number 10 role, which was well blocked by the Bromley defence. It was all United in the first few minutes, and it was Daniel once again that was causing all of the early problems, with a superb run and shot being blocked again by the Bromley defence. 

In the 12th minute, a deep corner from Daniel caused problems in the Bromley box, as United tried to prise open the door of the Bromley goal. It was another last ditch block from Rob Swaine that kept out the resultant shot from Williams, as the hosts were being deperately overrun.

On 28 minutes, a long clearance from the United defence was superbly taken down by the hard working Elliot Benyon, flourishing in the sole striker role being employed in the 4-4-1-1 formation, but his shot from 25 yards whistled past the post of the helpless Bromley ‘keeper Alan Julian.

As the half wore on, Bromley did start getting in to the game, as the pitch grew worse and worse by the minute, showing signs of the three matches a week that are currently being played there, and the heavy rain that had been in the area for the last couple of days. Bromley’s first worthwhile attack of the game came as late as the 42nd minute, when a deep cross found Reece Prestedge in space on the right, and his thunderbolt of a shot cannoned off the underside of the bar, and was scrambled away to safety.

There was still time for another United attack, as once more Daniel jinked past several challenges, but could not quite get his shot away, and the shot was blocked in the six yard box with no United player being able to pounce to put the loose ball into the net.

The second half became much more of a war of attrition, as the conditions made any meaningful passing football very difficult, and as a result the play tended to head towards more direct football. However, United continued to repel the ever-dangerous Bradley Goldberg.

United lost the services of Wes Daly just four minutes in to the second half, as he appeared to tweak his hamstring, with a direct replacement coming in the form of Gary MacDonald.

With the first meaningful attack of the half, United won a corner, and another great delivery from Daniel was met sweetly by the head of skipper Dean Inman, who was able to beat the despairing dive of the Bromley ‘keeper to put United in the lead – perhaps with the slight possibility of a deflection from Benyon on the way in. United were deservedly in front, and continued to look strong.

In the 62nd minute, however, a nasty collision involving Gary MacDonald left the United midfielder in obvious distress, and only 15 minutes after joining the match, he left the game on a stretcher, with a broken leg looking like the likely outcome – However, all at United were very pleased to learn after the game that there was no break, just a lot of swelling and maybe ligament damage.

With Macca off, the formation remained the same, but with Luke Williams dropping in to the midfield quartet, and Tom Derry filling his role in the hole. 

It was Bromley, however, that were now starting to come in to the game, with some tired legs evident on the heavy pitch, and with United's two new signings playing 90 minutes for the first time for a while. 

A good cross from substitute Louis Dennis was met with a header from fellow substitute Jamie Slabber – The ball being destined for the top right hand corner with Calum Kitscha showing why he is the current England C ‘keeper with a superb diving save to keep the United goal intact. 

As the game moved in to the last ten minutes, Slabber found himself clear of the United defence, only for a magnificent last ditch tackle from Inman to take the ball away just as he bore down on the United goal.

Heartbreak was then the order of the day, as Bromley forced a corner from a good defensive effort from Williams. Slabber rose highest to the corner and planted a header past the diving Kitscha for an equaliser with just two minutes of normal time remaining.

The Bromley fans then finally burst in to life as the referee indicated a minimum of seven additional minutes, but it was United that were still finishing strongly. Rhys Murrell-Williamson showed good pace to take on Rob Swaine, with the Bromley captain hauling him down in a last gasp effort to stop him getting clear. Referee Ian Cooper had no choice but to send the Bromley man to the dressing room, with Bromley finishing the game with ten men.
