A disciplined and dominant display from Hayes and Yeading United's under 18 side saw them clinch the Ryman Youth League West Division title with two games to spare against Woking at Beaconsfield Road on Monday evening.

The home side had the first opportunity when a half cleared corner was fired through a crowded box by skipper Ahmed Mohammed but his low shot was gathered in by Alex Harris in the Cardinals goal before being denied twice in quick succession by last ditch tackles right in front of goal.

Woking responded as Jake Gill got free on the right wing and teed up striker Matt Connor who fired wide with the goal at his mercy. Gill then attempted a long shot but Wootton comfortably blocked the effort.

Just as Woking were gaining momentum, they were caught out by a stunning counter attack which led to the first goal. Arti Krasniqi floated a long pass into Jalon Rowe's path and he took the ball down brilliantly before laying it on a plate for Gil Cravid to finish from close range.

With that, Rowe switched to the right and laid on a chance for Jack Thomson-Wheeler whose shot tested the reach of Harris, saving low to his left. As United maintained the pressure, a poor headed clearance by Harris who had advanced outside his penalty area was volleyed back by Prince Mbengiu but the ball flew wide of the vacant net.

Pierre Amichice then engineered a fine attack from right back, aided by a good advantage call from referee Mr Barry, and the move culminated in Jalon Rowe teeing up Shariff Wilson whose low shot was saved by Harris.

Just before the break, Woking had a great opportunity to equalise as Gill again got free on the right, and his low centre was turned goalwards by Jay Bradley only for Amichice to demonstrate quick thinking and clear off the line. Mason Turner's follow up flew high over the bar.

United started the second half as much in control as they ended the first with Cravid curling a snapshot on target but Harris gathering low to his left. The pressure however paid off in the 59th minute. Cravid intercepted a short goal kick and eventually worked his way into the box. His long cross was collected by Jalon Rowe whose first shot was blocked but his second squirmed in under Harris's dive.

Both Mbengiu and Cravid had efforts on target soon afterwards but both shots were hit straight at Harris. However, Mbengiu got on the scoresheet for the 12th time this season with 11 minutes remaining, cutting in from the right hand side before curling in a beauty from a tight angle.

Krasniqi found Mohammed soon afterwards but his 20 yarder rose just too high. It wasn't to matter though, as Mr Barry's final whistle confirmed Hayes and Yeading United as champions of the Ryman Youth League West Division, season 2013/14.
