Hayes & Yeading United’s under 18 side continued their 100% start to this season’s Ryman Youth League campaign with a 5-0 victory at Bedfont Sports over visitors Northwood giving Simon East’s side 18 points from their 6 games played.
United got off to the perfect start on a cold Thursday evening as Jalon Rowe’s corner was punched weakly by Woods keeper Tom O’Brien and United midfielder Jack Carriere stroked the ball home from 12 yards out.
Although United were having the bulk of the possession, a ten minute spell just before the half hour mark saw Adam Loris collect a long ball out to the right side, he cut inside and hit a shot that Tyler Wootton pushed away with Tom Marr clearing away the loose ball.
Minutes later Woods’ Ronnie Blagden had two good chances in quick succession, the first being well held by Wootton with the second forcing the United stopper to push his driven effort around the post.
United were soon back in the driving seat though as Josh Odunwo gathered the ball on the edge of the Woods area and hit a shot that narrowly missed the target. Then on the stroke of half-time the move of the match saw Prince Mbengiu and Pierre Amichice exchange passes in the middle of the park before the latter played a slide-rule pass through the middle of the Woods defence to set Odunwo free and the striker coolly slotted the ball past O’Brien into the bottom corner.
Things continued pretty much the same in the second half with Wootton having a quieter time in the United goal as the visitors defence was put under pressure constantly. It took until just before the hour mark for the first notable chance of the half as Odunwo slipped the ball inside the last defender to Mbengiu who tucked the ball under the diving O’Brien to increase the lead.
Minutes later O’Brien did well to tip over and angled shot from Jalon Rowe before his brother Oneal Rowe made it four in the 70th minute as he latched onto a deep Arti Krasniqi cross at the far post to fire back across O’Brien into the far corner.
Two minutes later it was five for the home side as Gil Cravid’s clever chip into the centre saw Odunwo smash the ball into the roof of the net from close range for his 8th of the season.
With two minutes remaining it was almost six, O’Brien came out of his area to kick clear from Senesei Koroma-Ice only for the ball to go straight to another United substitute, Nabil Rashid, who fired goalwards only for his effort to be cleared off the line by a back-peddling defender.
