Delroy Preddie’s young reserve side suffered defeat at the hands of Staines Town on the Sharda Glass Community Stadium training pitch on Monday evening when three quick second half strikes from the Swans wiped out Ross Seldon’s early opener for United.

The visitors were dealt a warm up blow when a groin injury forced keeper Charlie Hyam to withdraw from the side. His replacement Billy Ross was soon in action as Mitch Jefferson swept the ball in from the left to Ross Seldon, the former United under 18 midfielder striking the ball first time only for Ross to push it around the post.

Seldon had more luck 60 seconds later though as he met a Lewis Cole corner at the far post, heading past Ross to give United a fourth minute lead.

The Swans started to immediately look for an equaliser, Bajram Pashaj fired across Tyler Wootton’s goal and wide before Luke Bersey did well to block away a shot on the turn from Danny Bassett.

Ivan Kumanda was inches away from pulling the visitors level before at the other end another opening for United saw Seldon just miss the target with another header from skipper Cole’s centre.

The last two chances of the half both fell to Bassett for the Swans, his first effort being screwed wide when well placed before he raced onto a long Ross punt but having beat the offside call, his effort was saved by the diving Wootton.

25 minutes of the second half had passed with only one scare as Swans substitute Joe Hughes was left unmarked at the far post but he headed across the goal and wide of the far post.

Hughes was not to be denied though and on 70 minutes he started a run of three goals in seven minutes for the visitors that saw them take the spoils, moving onto the ball on the right tip of the area and hitting a shot that flew past Wootton into the very top corner of the United net.

Wootton immediately denied Oluwole Akinsanya a second but could do little in the 74th minute when the burly Swans striker turned past two in the box before firing his side ahead. Pashaj then chipped the United keeper only for his effort to drift wide before Akinsanya gave his side breathing space by running through and confidently lofting the ball over the advancing Wootton and into the unguarded United net.

With United getting little change from the Swans defence, the only other real chance of the game saw Wootton twice deny Akinsanya a hat-trick from close range, saving the initial shot and them being alert enough to dive on the loose ball as the Swans closed in.
