Hayes & Yeading’s woeful run of results continued on Tuesday evening at Kingfield as a stoppage time goal from Staines Town courtesy of an offside looking Jordaan Brown saw them snatch all three points.

Manager Phil Babb made a single change to the starting XI that lost narrowly at Ebbsfleet United, new arrival Freddie Ladapo replacing the ineffective Inih Effiong who has returned to parent club Chesham United.

Jack Mills created an early opening for United, Dean Inman getting his head to his cross but this was fielded at the foot of the post by Swans keeper Jack Turner.

The Swans the created a couple of openings of their own, Louie Theophanous was first to a weak Ben Gerring back-header only to fire wide and then Max Worsfold moved onto a deep Ashley Lodge cross only to fire over the United goal.

Around the half hour mark United had the best effort thus far when Brandon Goodship collected the ball on the edge of the box and tried to curl the ball into the top corner only to be denied by an excellent tip away by Turner.

Ten minutes later United broke the deadlock when Luke Williams appeared to play a one-two with a defender and having collected the ball moved into the box and fired across Turner with his weaker left foot into the far corner.

Stoppage time almost saw the Swans draw level but Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz was equal to Worsfold’s angled cross-shot.

Staines came out with more vigour in the second half and after Lodge had fired across the face of the United goal, an extremely contentious free-kick was awarded against Adam Everitt on the right side. Worsfold’s kick seemed to clear everybody in the box, including Jaimez-Ruiz, to nestle in the far corner of the net.

Minutes later the Swans were again indebted to Turner who acrobatically tipped over a Frankie Merrifield effort after good approach play from Rashid Yussuff in the middle of the park.

Play continued to swing from end to end, Theophanous missed his kick inside the six yard box only to retain the ball and have a second try, this time firing straight into Jaimez-Ruiz’s grasp. The same two were quickly in action again, the United keeper getting down smartly to push the strikers shot around the post.

Play immediately went to the other end and debutant Ladapo got to a bouncing ball first but could not get enough lift on his header and Turner grabbed it comfortably.

United were then undone in seemingly controversial fashion in the second minute of added time as a Lodge centre, following yet another harshly awarded free-kick, found a totally unmarked Jordaan Brown at the far post who nodded the ball home as everyone looked for a flag from the assistant referee that did not materialise increasing United’s run of consecutive defeats to nine.
