Hayes & Yeading recent woes continued at Kingfield on Tuesday evening as Farnborough went away with all three points as United’s stop-start fixture list re-started.

The first chance of the game went the way of the visitors and George Sykes should have done better when put through but the striker’s weak effort was easily fielded by the returning United stopper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.

United’s own number 9 was the recipient of United’s first real opening when he appeared to chase down the ball from an offside position only to be waved on, he rounded keeper Kevin Scriven but was forced wide and when his effort finally came in the shot was deflected wide.

United didn’t get the luck of the bounce just after the half hour mark when a defensive clearance from Effiong’s cross struck Kiernan Hughes-Mason and went straight into Scriven’s arms.

Just two minutes later the visitors were in front. Adam Everitt was harshly penalised on the right flank with the resultant free-kick being curled beautifully across the six yard box where a minimal touch from Phil Page saw the ball nestle in the far corner.

United were nearly further behind in stoppage time when Alan Inns met a corner only for United debutant Ben Gerring to head clear off the line.

‘Boro continued to push from the off in the second half and Jaimez-Ruiz was soon to make the first of a few fine saves of the half as he pushed out a Page drive aimed for the near post.

Hughes-Mason fired weakly at Scriven for United before Jaimez-Ruiz again had to be at his best, this time tipping a diving header from Jon Nurse onto the post.

Seconds later though United were made to pay for over playing outside our own box as the ball was fed to Matt Ball in the area and he fired past Jaimez-Ruiz to double the visitors lead.

The half continued to be a little like Farnborough versus Jaimez-Ruiz as the United keeper tipped over a ball free-kick that appeared destined for the top corner, albeit appearing to be a cross. His best stop of the evening came on 72 minutes when Sykes broke on the left and pulled the ball back to Page who was denied by a fine diving save that saw the ball tipped around the post by the United keeper.

Jaimez-Ruiz was again credited with keeping the score down with seven minutes to play as Nurse broke into the area, his shot being blocked onto the post before being cleared to safety.

United finally got on the scoresheet in stoppage time as Scriven and defender Ollie Teacher got themselves in a mess just outside the box, presenting Hughes-Mason with the easy task of rolling the ball into a vacant net, sadly too little too late for United as the final whistle blew about 60 seconds later.
