Hayes & Yeading fell to defeat at Kingfield for the second game in a row as Phil Babb was forced into making two crucial changes to his starting line-up after Saturday's excellent win at Boreham Wood as injuries deprived him of both skipper Luke Williams and winger Kamaron English.

Luke Medley came from the bench for a first start in place of Williams while new signing Jordan Palmer-Samuels lined up on the right side of midfield instead of English. The bench meanwhile saw a combination of last seasons youth and reserve players alongside keeper James Warrington.

Both sides were to see an opening in the first four minutes of the game. The first almost came as a stroke of luck for the Sports as Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz was forced to turn a Charlie Gorman cross over his crossbar. Within a minute it was United doing the creating as the ball was played from defence to Tom Bird, he played it to Medley inside the box but he delayed his strike enabling Lewis Tallack to get in a block that saw the ball roll to keeper Craig Ross.

Much travelled Sports skipper Ian Simpemba was then left to roam free in the box, getting his head to a Frankie Raymond corner that went over Jaimez-Ruiz's goal and Ross was soon in action again at the other end, plucking a 25 yard Frankie Merrified effort from the air.

Just after the half hour point, Jaimez-Ruiz made probably his only save of note in the game when Chris Shephard bounced a volley towards the bottom corner of the United goal, the United stopper blocking the ball away with the follow-up strike being flagged for offside.

Seven minutes from the break Ross was again called into action for the visitors as Jake Reid broke forwards from the centre circle but his shot from the edge of the box was comfortably fielded by the keeper.

It took the visitors just six minutes of the second half to break the deadlock. Raymond floated a corner to the far post where an unmarked Matt Aldred nodded the ball back into the mix and Johnson smashed it home.

Minutes later it could have been worse for Phil Babb's charges as a long Ross punt was allowed bounce over his head by Charlie Wassmer, Johnson was quickly onto the ball but rushed his shot and it went well wide of the upright.

Ross saved a Reid chip on the hour mark after the stand-in skipper held off two defenders to get his shot away and just three minutes later United really should have been level. Bird made space to cross on the left and picked out Medley arriving at the far post, the striker's attempted a volley when from distance a header looked the better option, and it may have proved so as his shot went back the way it came rather than troubling Ross.

With 15 minutes to go, Raymond again picked out Aldred at the far post with a corner, this time Wassmer was sharp enough to charge down the shot and it went for a corner that Jaimez-Ruiz confidently caught.

The final chance for United to score what would have been a deserved equaliser came with just four minutes remaining. A throughball from midfield found Medley, the striker outpaced his marker but again delayed his shot and was driven wide which was the same outcome from his shot, wide of the Sports goal.
