Hayes & Yeading started the game with an unusual three at the back formation due to the absence of suspended right-back Anthony Furlonge but were soon pushing against the home defence. Charlie Wassmer played an early ball up the right side to Jake Reid who moved into the box on the righthand corner and fired across Louis Wells goal but wide of the far post.
Louie Soares then cut the ball back from the bye-line to Luke Williams, his floated centre being met by Jack Mills who saw his header glance the crossbar on its way over the top. Wassmer was in his normal defensive mode a few minutes later, getting his head to a fierce Shaun McAuley shot and deflecting it away for a corner that Jay Gasson headed well wide at the far stick.
McAuley soon forced a diving stop from Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz in the United goal with another shot from distance before Manny Williams burst through the United defence, advanced into the box only to be denied by a perfectly timed sliding tackle from skipper Dean Inman just as he was about to pull the trigger.
It was fully 25 minutes before the next chance of any note arrived, Williams collected on the right side and played the ball into the area where Reid helped it on to an advancing Tom Bird on the left, his neat touch created a shooting chance for himself that Louis Wells pushed into the air with Gasson heading over his own goal from under the crossbar.
Bird again went close as the half reached 45 minutes this time latching onto a Frankie Merrifield pass and hitting a shot that struck the side netting of Wells' goal and we went in scoreless at the break.
First chance of the second period went to the home side who were now playing down the Camrose slope as Wes Daly found Williams with a free-kick, his centre return to the 'Stoke skipper saw Daly hit a shot that although always rising only just cleared the bar.
United then started to take charge of procedings. Bird's left wing cross was controlled by Williams who saw his half volley go agonisingly the wrong side of Wells' upright and then on the hour an Adam Everitt free-kick into the box saw Reid hold off Gasson with his back to goal before firing just too high with his shot on the turn.
The breathrough finally came
in the 72nd minute and again Everitt's deadball was the catalyst. The left-back's kick from the halfway line was brought down well by Wassmer who turned and raced between two defenders, his shot was blocked by a sliding Adam Green but quick as a flash substitute Kelvin Bossman was onto the loose ball to guide it past Wells into the bottom corner (pictured right).
Williams then went close again for United from
25 yards after collecting a long Jaimez-Ruiz punt that Bossman had managed to chest down despite being flattened by Gasson from behind. The home side had two decent chances of finding an equaliser in the last seven minutes but firstly Matt Partridge's shot from 8 yards out was well defended by Inman and then in the 89th minute a left wing cross was chested down by Robbie Matthews to McAuley who screwed his shot wide from the edge of the box and United saw out six minutes of stoppage time to claim a fourth away Skrill South victory in six attempts.
