The top two in the Ryman Youth League West came face to face at AFC Hayes on Monday evening and it was the visitors from Staines who took early control of proceedings as Iven Kumanda scored twice in the opening seven minutes.

His first on three minutes came after a corner was allowed to drop in the six yard box and despite an initial block from United keeper Melvin Minter, the Swans man swept home the loose ball.

The second came when the ball was played in from the right, a deft flick on in the middle found Kumanda arriving on the left of the box where he volleyed home to give the Swans a two goal advantage.

Minutes later Kumanda was denied a hat-trick by Minter who made a diving block after the Staines man was given too much space in the area.

United’s first opening came in the 19th minute when a deep corner was returned to Cheyenne Cripps but his first time effort was wide of the target.

Ten minutes remained in the half when the Swans scored a third. Jeremy Boakye wide on the right side played the ball forwards to Cyril Ocansey, the striker bringing the ball under control before volleying past Minter from 18 yards.

It could have been worse for the home side as the half closed as firstly a neat passing move from right to left by the Swans found Kumanda but this time his effort went across the face of goal. This was quickly followed by Minter saving from the same player and then doing even better to keep him out again. Blocking his point blank drive as did Tom Marr with the follow up from Erivaldo Felix.

The Swans came out quickly in the second half and soon forced a full length diving save from Minter, this was however to be a bit of a catalyst for United as they were to go on and dominate the half, scoring twice but failing to turn the tie around.

United’s first that changed the flow of the game came in the 50th minute when Harry Tew-Robinson collected the ball 20 yards out and hit a stinging drive that left Swans keeper Charlie Hyam no chance as it crashed home off the inside of the post.

Minutes later it could have been two as a surging run by Marvel Ekpiteta appeared to be brought to an illegal end in the area, however referee Mr Simpson saw no offence and when the loose ball ran to Tew-Robinson his goalbound shot was deflected wide. The resultant corner created an opening for Cripps at the far post but he blasted over.

With neither side creating much the game went into its last few minutes with the Swans still holding a two goal advantage. Ekpiteta then went close with a shot that just missed the angle before United reduced the arrears in the third minute of stoppage time when Hyam allowed a Riquel Samuel free-kick to slip from his grasp over the goal-line.

United almost pulled it around in the ninth minute of stoppage time when an Andrew Dean cross from the left picked out Ross Seldon but his first time effort flew across the face of goal and wide of the target with proceedings coming to a halt almost immediately leaving United 5 points behind the Swans with three games remaining.
