Hayes & Yeading United’s class of 2012 started their Ryman Youth League campaign with a solid 5-2 victory over a young Bedfont Sports side at AFC Hayes on Monday evening.

United got off to a really good start, taking the lead after just nine minutes. The returning Flavio Tavares feeding the ball to Ross Seldon who picked his spot in the top corner from fully 20 yards out.

Two chances for the home side quickly followed, David Manu tried to slide the ball inside the near post only to be denied by Sports keeper Jake Tayler who pushed his effort around the post. Tayler was well placed again minutes later when a miss-hit Romain Palmer shot found its way to Andrew Dean, the left-back’s shot being palmed away by the Sports keeper.

With both sides pushing and probing without really getting anywhere, it was beyond the half hour mark before the scorer was troubled again. This time it was a goal created and scored by Dean. The defender collecting the ball on the run and heading towards the Sports area, he then switched the ball to his weaker right foot and arrowed a shot into the top far corner giving Tayler no chance.

The 36th minute saw United keeper Melvin Minter in action for the first time as he clawed away a long range effort from Sports skipper Scott Lamond.

Four minutes later it was three as a mazy dribble into the area by Tavares finally ended with a defensive tackle although the ball ran free to United’s new skipper Lewis Cole and he confidently beat Tayler from 10 yards.

The half closed with another United near miss as Alan Musoke took possession on the edge of the area and fired across Tayler but his effort went wide of the far post.

The first fifteen minutes after the break saw defences breached three more times, twice by the visitors. Bedfont were to get their name on the score sheet on 51 minutes when Scott Lamond dispossessed Prosper Ezewuzie on the edge of his own box and slid the ball under Minter’s dive.

Five minutes later the three goal lead returned for United. Palmer set up Cole, his 20 yard drive being pushed wide by Tayler. From the corner, the ball was worked to Tavares who saw his shot squirm under Tayler and roll in off the upright.

Sports were soon back on the goal trail themselves, substitute Malachi Calliste-Thompson hitting a stinging shot that Minter did well to parry only for Bradley Wilson to be in the right place to roll home the rebound.

The final goal of the evening and United’s fifth came at the midway point of the half. Charlie Gorman made space from defence on the right, his centre being turned home by Musoke.

Calliste-Thompson advanced and hit a shot from 25 yards that only just cleared the United goal and then United substitute Josue Antonio lost the ball just outside his own area to Taylor Green, the Sports striker’s shot being kept out well by Minter.

The final chance of the game came eight minutes from time and was probably one of the best moves of the entire game. Dean broke away on the left side and hit a cross towards on-coming United substitute Hamdi Salah who volleyed just wide of Tayler’s goal.
