A minor injury to loan keeper Matt Ingram saw him become unavailable which meant first action of the season for James Beasant between the sticks but it was Hayes & Yeading who were quickly out of the blocks at Kingfield, going ahead in just the eighth minute.

United had two good chances to take the lead before the deadlock was broken also. Tobi Joseph won the ball in his own half and fired a smart crossfield pass to Kudus Oyenuga, the striker moving quickly past left-back Jack Obersteller before rolling the ball to Yassin Moutaouakil on the edge of the area, his drive being grabbed by a diving Sam Mott in the Wings goal.

Oyenuga himself was the next to try his luck in the 6th minute as he collected from Luke Williams and ran at the heart of the visitors defence, his shot going just wide of the upright. Two minutes later the deadlock was broken, not surprisingly by the home side. A forward ball from his own half by Tom Cadmore saw Oyenuga and Ben Martin challenge for the ball, neither got a touch and a quick thinking Jerome Anderson nipped behind them both and lofted the bouncing ball perfectly over Mott was caught in no mans land (pictured above).

Beasant saw his first action in the 18th minute when his punched corner fell to Joe Healy who struck a sweet volley through a crowded area only for the United keeper to pull off a fine diving parry before the ball was pumped away to safety.

United were soon back on the front foot though. Daniel Wishart moved down the left side and played the ball inside to Williams, his flick setting up skipper Sam Cox who hit a dipping shot that only just cleared Mott's crossbar. Six minutes from the break Oyenuga was denied, not for the first time this season, by the woodwork as his low shot beat Mott and came back off the post but no United player was quick enough to the loose ball.

Then two minutes later the Wings pulled level. A cross from the left side picked out an unmarked Lee Clarke at the far post, with just Beasant to beat he fluffed his shot but was quick enough to recover possession and feed the ball back to former United loanee Fraser Franks, his tame shot from the edge of the box being cheekily back-heeled past Beasant from six yards.

The second half could not have started better for the home side as the lead was re-established just 23 seconds after proceedings began. Williams sent Joseph away on the right, he outpaced Barney Williams, looked up and picked out strike partner Oyenuga who coolly swept the ball past Mott for his fourth of the season.

We had to wait for the hour mark to see the next serious threat to change the scoreline when Lafayette met a right wing cross with a glancing header that was only just the wrong side of Beasant's post. Three minutes later it was Mott's turn to be worried as Yassin Moutaouakil picked out Joseph, he won the ball in the tackle and helped it on to Williams, he in turn fed half time substitute Mark Bentley who was just too high from the corner of the Wings area.

We were now into the final ten minutes of normal playing time and Williams was played through, he rounded Mott but went wide, Wings player-manager Jamie Day blocked his effort but Williams soon took the ball back and cut inside but his shot was saved by Mott at the foot of his post.

As 90 minutes approached, Bentley was just wide with a volley having received a Wishart throw-in and then in the seventh minute of stoppage time it almost went wrong for United when a cross to the far post found an unmarked Harry Baker who snatched at his shot and fired high and wide of Beasant's goal to effectively secure the win for Nas Bashir's side.
