Hayes & Yeading showed a lot of their early season character at Kingfield to put a halt to the poor run of form that has seen United under a third management regime of 2013, coaches Delroy Preddie and Tristan Lewis taking the reigns only 48 hours earlier.

The new management made four changes to the side beaten at Wheatsheaf Park, in came Milan Stojsavljevic, Osei Sankofa, Kudus Oyenuga and Tom Collins in place of Brandon Hall, Mark Bentley, Adam Bygrave and Julian Owusu-Bekoe.

For the first ten minutes it looked like nothing had changed as the visitors threw bodies forwards and twice found the back of the United net. It could have been even worse as after just three minutes, Calum Butcher did well to close down Frannie Collin as he was about to shoot from six yards and when the loose ball was flicked back to Mark Lovell, he blazed over from 12 yards.

Collin and Lovell were both soon to get their names on the scoresheet though as first Collin won the ball midway inside the United half before advancing and beating Stojsavljevic low into the bottom corner and then just two minutes later Henry Muggeridge was given far too much space on the right and his low centre was tapped home at the far post by Lovell.

Far from letting memories of Thursday evening flood back, United maintained their composure and started to look for a way back into the game and when Oyenuga was bundled over in the area all and sundry thought a penalty was the only decision possible but referee Hicks waved away the appeals to the disbelief of players and management alike.

Still the home side kept looking for that crucial way back, Daniel Wishart fed Oyenuga who was a whisker away as his shot just cleared Lee Worgan's crossbar and with nine minutes to go to the break a Luke Williams centre just evaded Corcoran's head and skidded away from Oyenuga who was arriving at the far post.

United came out still in fighting mood and eight minutes into the second half forced a fine save from Worgan as he pushed a Collins effort around the post. The resultant Williams corner was met by Corcoran but he was just too high with his header.

Minutes later it was Stojsavljevic at the other end who kept the game alive, making a fine catch diving to his left to deny Lovell who met an Ashley Miller cross on the volley from 8 yards out. In fact seconds later Miller himself should have wrapped the game up when he latched onto Adam Everitt's missed back header only to poke the ball past the advancing Stojsavljevic and wide of the upright.

Ten minutes later United were back in the hunt, Corcoran took charge of a free-kick a couple of yards outside the Angels area, placing the ball perfectly into the bottom corner beyond Worgan's full stretch dive. Just three minutes later it was all even as a ball upfield to Collins in the left channel saw the striker get to the ball before Worgan, control it on the turn and loft it back over the keeper into his vacant net.

United were now very much in control of the game, Oyenuga forced a save from Worgan at the foot of his post as the keeper almost let it slip through his legs and then with eight minutes to go Williams had a shot deflected over and from the resultant corner the ball fell back to Williams from Worgan's punch but he volleyed over.

The 71st minute arrival of John Goddard from the bench had caused the visitors defence problems from the off, an earlier run had finally ended with a last ditch interception in the area and then with six minutes remaining he went on another forwards surge, this time playing the ball left to Oyenuga who capped probably his best performance in a United shirt with the winner as he coolly planted the ball past Worgan to cap a fine United comeback victory that sees them move up to 15th from 20th in the table.
