Hayes & Yeading fought out a goalless draw for the first time this season with both United and visitors Sutton failing to find the net at Kingfield this afternoon.

With the recent rainfall leaving the Kingfield pitch very soft, it was no surprise that the pitch had already started to cut up during the warm up. Manager Tony O'Driscoll gave a debut to former Eastleigh defender Osei Sankofa at right-back while the U's named no fewer than three former United men in their starting XI.

The opening exchanges were evenly spread with neither side testing the opposing keeper as both sides had to acclimatize to the playing conditions under foot.

The first openings of the game came around the fifteen minute mark and it was a good spell for the visitors that saw three good chances either missed or repelled by the United defence. Harry Beautyman knocked the ball to Craig Dundas who saw his effort saved by Louis Wells, a minute later a ball that seemed to be drifting out hit the corner flag and remained in play and when the cross found Beautyman in the centre he sliced his effort over under pressure from Adam Everitt.

Wells was soon in action again when a near post cross from former United man James Folkes was flicked goalwards by Dundas but Wells did well to spread himself and block the ball away.

Just before the half hour mark and with United having to replace the injured Adam Bygrave with Calum Butcher, the U's skipper Jamie Stuart met a Sam Rents corner with a glancing header that never looked likely to trouble Wells as the ball slid well wide of the target.

The final two chances of the half both fell to the home side who were now finding some good movement towards the visitors goal. Tom Collins and Ben Gladwin combined in the area with the latter feeding the ball to skipper Sam Cox who hit a low drive from 20 yards that U's keeper Tom Lovelock kept out diving full stretch to his left and although Luke Williams slid home the loose ball he was denied by the raised assistant's flag for offside.

In the 38th minute, another well timed Gladwin pass sent Sam Corcoran through, he was forced wide by Lovelock and when he cut the ball back to Cox he could not keep his shot down and it cleared the U's goal.

Just after the hour mark United substitute Mark Bentley latched onto a loose ball 20 yards out but Lovelock stretched up to pluck the effort from the air. Ten minutes later a fine United move again produced an opening, Cox playing the ball to Collins, the striker feeding Corcoran who had more time than he realised as he sliced his first time shot wide.

The final two chances fell to the visitors as first substitute Chris Benjamin slid onto a Harry Ottaway knock down but was wide of the target and then with two minutes remaining a long Simon Downer throw-in was inadvertently flicked on by Corcoran to Dundas who was denied by a sliding Cox who deflected his snapshot over the crossbar.
