Hayes & Yeading United's fifth pre-season outing saw victory gained over Ryman Premier neighbours Harrow Borough at Earlsmead on Tuesday evening but it was tough going at times, especially in the first part of the second half.

United got away to a superb start, taking the lead after just seven minutes. Manny Williams slid the ball to Kudus Oyenuga who instantly turned his marker in the box and slotted the ball past the dive of Borough keeper Jamie Jackson into the far corner.

Although the inter play between both sets of players was good to watch, chances were not to be plentiful and it was 20 minutes before the home side really tested James Beasant in the United goal. A smart passing move involving and interchange between Jordan Lawal and Steve Ferguson saw the latter push the ball through to Evandro Delgado but Beasant reacted quickly to block the ball wide.

Two goals in sixty seconds were to follow just minutes later. United were first, Sam Cox sprayed the ball left to Victor Osobu, the former Beaconsfield SYCOB winger nodded the ball perfectly to Luke Williams who hit a 20 yard shot that bounced perfectly over the diving Jackson's outstretched hand. It did not take the hosts long to halve the deficit though as Steve Ferguson cut inside Jack Ward on the right of the area before firing low across to Evandro Delgado who fired past the unprotected Beasant.

And that was really it for the first half.

Mass changes were the order of the day in the second half, mainly by the home side who made no fewer than 12 changes in the match compared to United's five as Nas endeavors to bring familiarity to his side. Ten minutes into the half a neat throughball to Borough striker Alwayne Jones saw him through on goal only to fire tamely at Beasant from the edge of the box.

Jones again should have done better on the hour mark, Yassine Fehmi-Gill brought the ball down really well in the area only to have the ball taken off his toes by his team-mate Jones who shot wide from six yards. Jones was soon attacking Beasant's goal again minutes later having picked off a poor Josh Ekim pass, the Borough striker hit a shot that only just cleared the United goal.

Twelve minutes remained when Tom Cadmore hit a long pinpoint pass to Daniel Wishart on the left, the United man cutting into the area before seeing his near post effort turned away by replacement Borough keeper Jacques Blouett. Blouett was to be beaten two minutes later though in a move again started by the precision of Cadmore's boot, this time it was Luke Williams who collected the ball, took a touch and fired past Blouett.

The final ten minutes saw a chance apiece. For the home side Tristan Toney had a 20 yard effort held by Beasant while at the other end an unusually advanced Elliott Legg was just beaten to a throughball by Blouett who timed his slide tackle to perfection before grabbing the ball just inside the area.
