Hayes & Yeading United shared four goals with Enfield Town as a goal filled draw brought United's pre-season to a close. Now all attention will be turned to the start of the new season next week against Weston-super-Mare.

United dominated possession in the early stages but it took 12 minutes for a significant shot at goal and that was the first of three occasions when the frame of the goal was struck as Luke Williams laid the ball into Josh Ekim’s path and the midfielder burst into the box and hit a firm shot against the foot of the post with Noel Imber beaten.

Minutes later, Sam Cox put a well weighted pass into Kudus Oyenuga’s path and he shrugged off his marker before forcing Imber to make a smart low save.

Enfield Town were restricted mainly to long shots with both Michael Ewang and Mitch Hahn firing over and Joe O’Brien wide. However, they came close when Danny Barber’s long clearance found Leon Osei onside and he lobbed James Beasant only to see the ball drop the wrong side of the post.

United responded well. Williams was fouled but referee Mr Conway played a good advantage as the loose ball ran to John Goddard. However, he seemed rather unclear about whether he was onside or not and his shot reflected his distraction, firing too close to Imber. United went closer twice before the break as Ekim put Oyenuga through on the right hand channel and his shot across goal hit the far post. Then Williams picked out Jacob Walcott who fired a firm shot on target which was well blocked by Imber.

The second half started rather tentatively for both sides. Ekim had a fairly weak long shot comfortably fielded by Imber before a fine sweeping move involving Walcott and Ekim culminated in space for Goddard on the edge of the box and his well hit shot once again hit the post.

A flurry of substitutions from both teams threatened to spoil the game but it was lit up by a moment of brilliance on 67 minutes. Williams’ corner proved too deep and Pelé went to retrieve it near the corner flag. There seemed to be little space for him to cross the ball so he cut it all the way back to skipper Sam Cox 30 yards from goal. From seemingly nowhere came a thunderous shot which was still rising as it flew into the net.

Further substitutions proved counter productive for the entertainment value, but the replacements were to have a significant part to play in the remainder of the match. A Hahn free kick was floated into the box 8 minutes from time and it seemed like a straightforward catch, but United’s sub keeper Jack Middleton elected to punch the ball. Unfortunately, his punch was blocked by Gary Burrell who was able to finish neatly into the net to equalise.

United looked to have won the game in the 88th minute. Cox seemed to tread on the ball but recovered in time to prod it out to Walcott on the right. His low pass found Tobi Joseph who turned his marker and hit his shot into the goal via the underside of the crossbar. However, minutes later from Hahn’s corner, the United forward handled the ball in his own area and Liam Hope confidently converted the penalty to claim a draw for the hosts.
