Manager Tony O’Driscoll made two changes from the last outing, with left back Adam Everiss coming in for almost-name-sake Adam Everitt, and Calum Butcher for the injured Adam Bygrave.

Sitting in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Luke Williams sitting behind front man Tom Collins, it was United that were to start the brightest. With just one minute on the clock, a move involving Sam Cox, Sam Corcoran and John Goddard created a shot for Corcoran which the former Chelmsford man dragged wide of the target.

In the seventh minute, Tom Collins was put through by Goddard, with the on-loan striker being brought down by the home centre half Alex Wynter – A penalty being awarded. Despite him being the last man, the referee only brandished a yellow card for Wynter, and John Goddard stepped up to take the spot kick. Borough captain and ‘keeper guessed correctly and saved the weakly taken penalty to his left hand side.

Just eight minutes later, United were to rue that missed opportunity, when Matt Aldred was given the space to cross from the left hand side, finding Simon Johnson with a simple header past the helpless Louis Wells.

The game went through an uneventful period, with the home side taking what seemed to be an eternity to take even the simplest set piece, and wasting as much time as possible. However, United did finish the half slightly brighter with a deep free kick from Cadmore being well collected, before United were awarded a corner. It was, however, the home side that were the happier when the referee brought proceedings to an end.

United again started the half slightly brighter, with good work from Luke Williams setting himself up for a shot which was cleared for a corner, before the Manager decided that two changes were necessary in the 57th minute.

The ineffective Ben Gladwin was replaced by Mark Bentley, and Adam Everitt was brought in for Sam Corcoran, with Adam Everiss moving forward to a more attacking position, Bentley being primarily used in a target man area.

Meanwhile, Eastbourne Borough brought on raw striker Elliott Charles, who brought pace and effort in to the Eastbourne front line.

In the 64th minute, ‘keeper Louis Wells was to keep the scoreline close, with an excellent save from the substitute Charles. From a Simon Johnson cross, Charles hit the ball sweetly only for Wells to tip the ball on to the bar and out to the relative safety of a corner.

Meanwhile, the referee finally cracked down on the obvious time wasting by booking Danny Potter for timewasting - Not before time!

With 81 minutes on the clock, the Borough net finally succumbed to a goal - A great throughball from Everiss was taken in his stride by Oyenuga who powered a shot low and under the ‘keeper. United obviously buoyed by this equaliser continued to hound the goal, but the Borough defence held firm.

However, injury time was once again going to inflict pain on the United team, and ‘Defensive Indifference’ to coin a baseball term allowed Darren Lok to attack the defence relatively unchallenged, beating the unprotected Louis Wells for what proved to be the Borough winner.
