Hayes & Yeading's turbulent season is thankfully finally over and we can all look to re-build for next season after the last day defeat at the hands of relegated AFC Hornchurch.

In all truth it was a really turgid game to watch with the highlight being the brightness brought to proceedings by many of the United faithful who traveled across London on the tube to the game in fancy dress.

It actually didn't start that way though as the opening ten minutes saw three attempts at goal. First to try his luck was United's John Goddard in the fifth minute when he latched onto Rickie Hayles clearance of a Sam Corcoran centre, his shot from 18 yards going across goal and wide of the far post.

The home side then started to make inroads into the United defence, but it held firm. A long Chris Bourne throw-in found its way to Kieron St Aimie, the big striker's first time volley being well blocked by Calum Butcher. Just two minutes later Brandon Hall was called into action in the United goal as Martin Tuohy turned makeshift defender Daryl McLean and fired a low shot that the United keeper did well to push around the post.

The best chance, and only other one of the half, fell to St Aimie who was put clean through in the 23rd minute only to fire straight at Hall who pushed the effort out with Butcher thumping away the loose ball before an Urchin could pounce.

The second half didn't really start in a different vein until the home side struck twice in four minutes just before the hour mark. On 53 minutes, a corner from the right was collected on the edge of the area by a United man who appeared to be fouled only for referee Mr Young to let play continue and the ball fell nicely to Tuohy who tapped home from close range.

Three minutes later Tuohy had the ball in the United net for a second time, this time collecting a St Aimie centre before sliding the ball past the unprotected Hall to double the Urchins advantage.

United's Adam Everitt almost presented the home side with a third on 75 minutes when he passed straight to St Aimie 25 yards from goal, the striker blazing over the bar from just outside the United area much to United and Everitt's relief.

The final two chances noted both fell to United's Goddard but as with the whole game for the visitors they were off target. Substitute Brendan Cowell did well to drag the ball down before flicking nicely into Goddard's run into the box but his shot was off the mark and didn't test Joe Woolley in the Urchins goal.

Another chance fell to Goddard in stoppage time but this time his speculative effort from 20 yards flew over Woolley's goal and thankfully the season was then brought to a close by Mr Young and we can all have a summer of contemplation before we start again back home at the Sharda Glass Community Stadium next season.
