With the wind howling and rain falling constantly, Hayes & Yeading very quickly put Northwood to the sword on Monday evening at Farm Park, recording a 7-0 victory over the only side to have taken points off Simon East’s side this season.

United gave a first appearance of the season to keeper Jake Quelch while Jack Banks and Ryan Simpson came into the starting XI in place of the rested Aristede Bassele and captain Jeffrey Kimoto.

Hayes & Yeading started well and were two goals ahead within the first 12 minutes. First on the scoresheet was the aforementioned Ryan Simpson who having collected the ball from Aaron Harriott proceeded to go past keeper Gary Malone before placing an inch perfect chip over Isaac Alawode on the line.

Next to find the net was Max Hubbard (below left) with the first of what was to become a hat-trick. Jack Banks played a superb defence splitting pass that Hubbard took control of before firing low and hard past Malone.

Five minutes later Banks found Isaac Osei-Tutu in the area, despite an initial slip, the United man picked out Simpson arriving at the far post, his first time shot going just wide of the upright. At the other end, a rare push upfield by Northwood saw a shot from distance from Nathan Henry go well wide of the target.

Malone did well just before the half hour mark, blocking Harriott’s effort away after a neat flick from Osei-Tutu had set up the chance. United were not to be denied though as Simpson’s corner was headed goalwards at the near post by Hubbard, deflecting past Malone off the face of Shomari Bridgewater.

Hayes & Yeading scored a fourth in the 36th minute when a Simpson free-kick caused chaos in the six yard box, Banks’ effort was blocked on the line by Malone only for the ball to run loose to Osei-Tutu who prodded home from close range.

As the half drew to its conclusion, Harriott for United and Lamin Cole for the Woods both went close and then in the final minute an under hit back-pass to Malone saw him kick the ball straight to Harriott who stayed composed and slid the ball back past the Woods stopper for number five.

Hubbard’s third and United’s sixth came in the 50th minute when he fired in a free-kick from the left wing that flew past all and sundry before nestling in the far corner of Malone’s goal.

Woods were denied a goal of their own two minutes later when a slip by Leonel Da Goma let in Temitayo Fambegbe but he was stopped from getting a shot away by a perfectly timed challenge from skipper Adam Butler.

At the other end, Hubbard was denied a fourth by the legs of Malone after he connected with another Simpson centre but the respite didn’t last long as United bagged a seventh in the 68th minute. Elliott Legg exchanged passes with Osei-Tutu before the tireless full-back advanced into the Woods area, his low cross being fired past Malone by United substitute Riquel Samuels.

With ten minutes remaining a trip on the edge of the area by Woods substitute Sam Beecham saw him receive a straight red card from referee Podsadny, much to the players’ dismay. The resultant free-kick saw Malone tip away Simpson’s drive.

Another rare chance for the visitors, albeit from distance, saw a 30 yard Cole effort dip just over the United goal after the Woods man had collected a rushed Quelch clearance.

While chances continued to come for the home side in the closing minutes, the score was to stay at seven. Simpson raced onto an Andrew Dean throughball and despite beating Malone to the ball his effort went across the face of goal and wide. In the final minute Hubbard fed Osei-Tutu who forced a flying tip away by Malone and the game was done and dusted.
