Hayes & Yeading United 2
Hampton & Richmond B. 0

A second half brace from Aristede Bassele saw Hayes & Yeading through to the 3rd Qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup where United face a tough trip to Staines Town who currently boast a 100% record from five games played.

United’s two main goal threats Aristede Bassele and Aaron Harriott combined early on with the latter firing over the Hampton goal before a 12th minute scare at the opposite end saw a quick throw-in to Lucien Ongui who hit an angled drive across the face of Luke Daley’s goal that went narrowly wide of the far post.

Seconds later a similar move saw Michael Kinsella cut in from the left and fire a shot at the near post, hitting the side netting but Daley had his post well covered anyway.

This seemed to provoke a response from Simon East’s charges as right-back Elliott Legg surged forwards, riding two Hampton challenges before seeing his shot from just inside the box deflect off an outstretched defensive boot, fly over keeper Alex Larson and loop back off the crossbar for Larson to catch.

Ongui tried his luck from distance minutes later, hitting a 35 yard free-kick that Daley did well to parry and gather. United then started to take control of proceedings, Andrew Dean played the ball forwards to Harriott who burst between two defenders before a heavy touch gave Larson the chance to bravely block at the strikers feet.

Ten minutes from the break Harriott again found himself in the clear as a defensive mistake saw him through on goal, his well struck drive being turned away superbly by Larson for a corner. The quickly taken kick was played to Bruno Goncalves but his angled shot was just too high.

Final chance before the break came when United were awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the Hampton area, Max Hubbard stepped up but his effort despite beating the wall was wide of the target.

The second half started a little slowly with the first opening going to the Beavers as Conner Fitzsimons slid the ball in to Issac Joshep’s run but his shot cleared Daley’s goal. Two minutes later the deadlock was finally broken by Hayes & Yeading. Legg played the ball forwards in the right channel to Bassele who nipped in front of James Taylor before racing through on goal and firing past the unprotected Larson.

Dean and Harriott again combined soon after but Larson was again well positioned to deny the United front man.

With just 15 minutes remaining and following a power surge which put out some of the lights, referee Mr Heavey took the players off the field while waiting for the lights to return.

After a break of around 12 minutes light was fully restored and the game continued, United however seemed to have lost some of their momentum as it was the visitors from Hampton who were to have the bulk of the possession.

Fitzsimons soon found space for himself inside the United box, forcing a diving save from Daley to keep United in front. Daley was again required six minutes from time when a long punt upfield was headed on by Joshep to left-back Martin Blythe, his first time shot being held by Daley.

Bassele again went close as the game entered stoppage time after good work from Legg, his shot hitting the side netting. The result was sealed in the fifth minute of stoppage time however when Bassele was picked out almost alone in the final third and he took the ball around Larson before literally walking it into the exposed Beavers goal.
