Two second half goals in as many minutes for the visitors was enough to ensure the 100% record of away victories in this fixture remained as Wrexham won at United for the third season running.

Nas Bashir made two changes to the side that earned a point in Shropshire eight days earlier as fit again Steve Arnold replaced Delroy Preddie in goal and Diak John replaced Sam Argent with Dan Spence moving to his more accustomed right-back role.

Hayes & Yeading started the game well against the high flying Welsh side and in the tenth minute Tom Collins beat the offside trap and made his way to the Wrexham area before picking out Pierre Joseph-Dubois who miss-hit his shot into the ground and it was cleared. Luke Williams soon won the ball back however and after exchanging passes with Joseph-Dubois hit a shot that keeper Joslain Mayebi handled comfortably.

Wrexham’s first real effort in anger was a speculative 35 yard effort from Adrian Cieslewicz that was straight at Steve Arnold in the United goal.

Collins then met a deep Dan Spence cross but his header was way off target while at the other end of the pitch a run on the right by the ever dangerous Cieslewicz drew much attention which gave space to Curtis Obeng who swung in a centre that was helped on to Danny Wright by a United head, the strikers header across goal just dropping wide of the target.

With less than 10 minutes to go to the break, United were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Wrexham box when Nat Knight-Percival felled Joseph-Dubois. Louie Soares took responsibility for the strike but despite beating the wall his effort never looked like troubling Mayebi who scooped up cleanly.

Wrexham almost closed the half with a goal when caretaker manager Andy Morrell controlled Obeng’s cross with his back to goal and in a single motion hooked the ball goalwards, just clearing Arnold’s crossbar.

The visitors from North Wales were quickly on the offensive again at the re-start as a long Obeng throw fell nicely to Jamie Tolley but he fired over from 12 yards out.

Ten minutes into the half it took some desperate defending by Wrexham to keep United out as first a Fraser Franks shot was charged down and then as the ball span to a well placed Soares, his shot was again blocked away by a well timed challenge inside the box.

The Wrexham bench pulled off what turned out to be a match winning substitution on 58 minutes when Mathias Pogba replaced the ineffective Wright at the head of their attack.

Within seconds of arriving, Pogba flicked on an Obeng throw to an in-coming Tolley, his header being well blocked by Franks who saw the ball go for a corner. The resultant kick was allowed to drop inside the United six yard box and in a flurry of legs was poked past Arnold by Knight-Percival.

Less than two minutes later and with United still reeling from going behind, the mountain became even bigger was an uncharacteristic error from Tom Cadmore saw Pogba beat Arnold to his poorly hit backpass and the substitute was able to walk the ball home in the simplest of fashions.

Just a couple of minutes later Collins burst through into the visitors area only for his shot to be blocked back against the United man with the ball going just the wrong side of the post.

Seconds later Arnold however had to be at his very best when Cieslewicz and Obeng again combined on the right with the latter picking out Tolley who could only watch as the United keeper changed direction to touch his shot around the post. Tolley then turned provider for Cieslewicz but he fired over as the Welsh side pushed on for a third.

Hayes & Yeading were not without chances though as the final ten minutes came and went. Mark Bentley hit a 20 yarder that only just cleared the bar and then in the 85th minute Soares found debutant substitute Jules Marsaud who hit a left foot shot that Mayebi did well to save diving full stretch to his right.

Stoppage time only saw one close shave and that again was from Wrexham when Jake Speight worked space for himself in the United area, his fierce shot being palmed away by Arnold at his near post.
