Hayes & Yeading United 1
Gabala (Azerbaijan) 2

Hayes & Yeading United’s solitary home friendly saw a visit from Arsenal legend Tony Adams' Gabala FC from Azerbaijan as part of their pre-season tour of England.

Nas Bashir's side started quickly and created a good opening in just the fifth minute when Louie Soares and Luke Williams combined to send Pierre Joseph-Dubois down the right side, his low centre to the near post saw a good defensive tackle from Gabala skipper Ljubo Baranin which took the ball from the toe of United striker Wes Halls.

Unfortunately for United, and in similar fashion to Saturday at Eastbourne, Bashir's side conceded early from a set piece. This time Baranin launched a missile of a throw in that saw Nuran Gorbanov nip between the two central defenders to head past the unprotected Billy Lumley.

Twenty minutes into the game, Louie Soares forced a diving save from Gabala keeper Anar Nazirov and just four minutes later United scored to level the game. Sam Argent won a tackle on halfway against Rovshan Amiraslanov and continued forwards to the edge of the area before playing the ball to Ryan Crockford on the right, his cut back picking out Joseph-Dubois who stroked the ball clinically past Nazirov.

The best chance before the break also fell United's way as a corner was played to Jamie Hand but his 25 yard drive flew wide of the far post.

Nazirov had to be at his sharpest soon after the break as Luke Williams threaded the ball to Soares in the Gabala box, he turned his marker and got a shot away but the visiting stopper saved well with his legs.

Just before the hour mark a defensive error gifted the visitors the lead once more. Jack Saville was caught in possession to the left side of his own area by Gorbanov who advanced into the United area before picking out the on-coming Amiraslanov
who stroked the ball home from 15 yards.

Having just arrived in the pitch for his first action of the pre-season campaign, Tom Cadmore fired a free-kick to the far post, the ball was headed back into the mix and another substitute Aaron Couch saw his volley blocked superbly at point blank range by Nazirov. The resultant corner was met by Cadmore only to be headed wide by the defender on the post, for a goal-kick!!

Last real chance of the game came seven minutes from time when Peter Holmes tried his luck with a free-kick from 25 yards, clearing the crossbar by a couple of feet.
