As you would expect from a first pre-season friendly, Nas Bashir's side contained a multitude of trialists as he looks to build a totally new look side for the coming season in the Blue Square Bet Premier

It was not surprising therefore when his new charges fell behind in just the third minute when a Sam Cole free-kick from the left side saw centre-back Liam Harwood rise first at the far post to head the ball past United keeper Billy Lumley.

Lumley was again called into action minutes later when a deflected pass found its way through to Cole in the United area, he took a touch before firing across the United stopper who did well to touch the low shot wide at full stretch.

Hayes & Yeading then started to push themselves back into the game, Luke Williams tried his luck from 20 yards but former United keeper Clark Masters made a good catch diving to his left and Masters was well positioned minutes later to catch a Ryan Crockford free-kick that was curled around the wall from the edge of the Eastbourne area.

New signing Crockford did well to win possession in the final third before feeding Daniel Wishart on the left of the Eastbourne area, his first time shot went wide of the target without troubling Masters while at the other end a Cole free-kick from 20 yards failed to test Lumley as he scooped the ball up comfortably.

Williams was quickest to the ball and took possession, quickly sending Aaron Couch into the area on the right side, his drive for the near post being well smothered by Masters at the foot of the upright.

With Nas making no fewer than nine changes at the break it took a while before a chance came. On the hour, former Wycombe man Jerome Federico raced onto a throughball into the right side of the area, his shot across the face of goal being touched wide by Masters full length dive.

Ten minutes later as United struggle to clear their lines the ball drops nicely to Hulusi Mustafa in the United area, his shot is deflected against the side of Lumley’s goal by a well timed Jack Saville challenge.

With ten minutes remaining, striker Wes Halls played the ball to Federico on the right, his low hard centre being turned over by the on-coming Dave Hutton.

The final minutes saw a chance apiece to add to the home sides third minute strike. Billy Medlock collected the ball eight yards from the United goal and hit a fierce drive that Lumley did well to palm away and at the other end Peter Holmes played the ball left to Gary Frewen who in turn slid it back to the midfield man who hit a first time shot from 18 yards that just cleared Masters crossbar.
