Hayes & Yeading United 2
Northwood 3

Hayes & Yeading United’s under 18’s lost a Ryman League fixture at Church Road for the second time this season as the hosts all round poor performance saw Northwood take advantage to win by the odd goal in five.

It started badly for the home side as Northwood took the lead in just the sixth minute when Damilola Thomas strode past Williams Ude on the left before curling a shot into the far top corner beyond United keeper Luke Daley.

Ten minutes later United’s first chance fell to George Isaac but his shot was blocked wide by a Woods defender. The resultant clearance was quickly moved upfield by the visitors and Jordan Douglas, having outpaced Ude, saw Daley approaching and lofted his shot over the United stopper but also over the goal.

A second for the visitors was not long coming though as Dwayne Cole-Parkes rose on his own to meet a corner from the right to head past Daley.

Cole-Parkes almost netted his second in identical fashion just past the half hour mark but a well placed Joel Jacobs was able to head the ball off the line. The Woods continued to pressurize the United defence and Daley was soon in action again as Chevy Hart’s slip allowed John Uche to advance but the United keeper did well to block away his shot.

Two minutes after this near miss United pulled themselves back into the game when Isaac found Longdon-Hughes (left
) in the area, he turned away from Reece Fallon before slotting the ball past Woods keeper Chesney Cassell.

United’s only chance of a leveller before the break fell to Isaac but he headed Nicke Kabamba’s centre wide of the target.

With steady rain now falling it was just before the hour mark before a worthwhile effort came from either side, and what a cracker it was as Jacobs (right) stepped up to hit a free-kick from 35 yards that beat Cassell, hitting the underside of the crossbar before bouncing up into the net to pull United level.

United’s equaliser seemed to put renewed zest into the visitors who had now seen a two goal lead slip. Thomas saw a drive held by Daley before United seemed to switch off at a corner, the kick was taken short and crossed to Woods skipper Sean Hollowed who rose highest to head past Daley to give his side the lead once more.

Despite going behind United were to create several chances in the final 20 minutes to not only pull the game level but to win it, however Cassell was not to be beaten.

Isaac saw a dipping shot just clear the crossbar while substitute Ryan Simpson headed over when well placed in front of goal. Cameron Gilmartin was denied ten minutes from time when his far post close range header appeared to be blocked on the line by a defenders arm, referee Hickes however declined to blow and play continued.

With United pushing forwards it was no surprise to again be caught out at the back as Uche raced through only to be denied by Daley who did well to push his effort wide of the post.

Stoppage time brought two more fantastic chances for United to score, Satnam Birk’s long throw fell nicely to Isaac who saw his first time shot pushed out by Cassell and then with virtually the last kick of the game Kabamba rose above Cassell to head goalwards, the ball clipping the outside of the post and rolling wide.
