A Nicke Kabamba double helped Hayes & Yeading United come back from two goals down to gain a revenge victory over Fleet Town on Wednesday evening.

United, who were keen to avenge a surprising 4-2 home defeat by Fleet recently, started strongly when Satnam Birk’s long throw-in found Leo Cunningham in front of goal but his header was straight at Sinan Satlik.

However, it was Fleet who took the lead against the run of play with a fine goal. William Gray dispossessed Birk before playing a one-two with Jake Beale and angling his shot just inside the far post.

George Isaac went desperately close for United soon afterwards with a header from Joel Jacobs’s corner which Jay Wilson did well to head off the goal line. However, United were stunned to find themselves two down when Matt Robson made progress down the right and crossed for Leigh Penny who finished smartly beyond the advancing Bilal Khan.

Isaac connected with another Jacobs dead ball, this time a free-kick, but his weak header was caught by Satlik. Then after a searching throughball from Birk, Cameron Blackie’s weak header was pounced upon by Cyrus Longdon-Hughes who shot just wide from the edge of the area.

United eventually managed to get a foothold into the game on 33 minutes. Cameron Gilmartin spotted Longdon-Hughes unmarked on the left wing and his long pass put him clear of the defence. The wide man got to the bye-line and put a cross over to where Kabamba was unmarked and able to finish from close range.

Just before half time, United were level. Another Jacobs corner caused mayhem as Satlik fumbled the ball and although Bobby Cumber’s shot was blocked by a defender, Longdon-Hughes’ shot from the edge of the box got through the bevy of players between him and the goal and flew into the net. And United were almost ahead at the break only for Satlik to make up for his previous error by blocking Kabamba’s shot following Isaac’s lay off.

Early in the second half, Isaac went close with another header which Wilson deflected away from goal and from another Jacobs corner, Bobby Cumber’s volley was brilliantly saved by Satlik.

At the other end, Khan matched that with a fine double save to deny Penny the chance to give the hosts another lead before also tipping the ball around the post from Alfie Lynch’s volley.

United rallied with both Kabamba and Isaac going close within a minute, Kabamba firing just wide and Isaac hitting a volley which Wilson scrambled away from danger.

However, United were to claim the winning goal with twenty minutes remaining as Kabamba turned and cut inside following Leo Cunningham’s throw-in and fired a low shot which beat Satlik at his near post.

Fleet substitute James McBride almost equalised straight away but his shot dipped just too late. It was United though, who might have added to the scoring before the end of the match, as Kabmaba went in search of his hat-trick but was wayward with his finishing and Isaac forced another fine save from Satlik who leaped to his left to keep the United forward’s curling shot out.

Connor Cumber had the last attempt at goal, but he shot weakly at Satlik. Nevertheless, after a long period of stoppage time United’s victory was confirmed and with it, a three point gap at the top of the Ryman Youth League Western Division.
