Hayes & Yeading’s reserve side moved a point ahead of Harrow Borough at the summit of the Capital League table with a 1-1 draw away at Wealdstone’s Grosvenor Vale ground.

United gave a debut to former Millwall youngster David Adedipe with our own under 18s Joel Jacobs and George Isaac again stepping up to the higher level as their development continues.

In all honesty it was to be a game fought in the middle of the park with chances few and far between as United had a greater share of possession but found the Stones defence very hard to break down.

That did not look to be the case early on though as in just the eleventh minute, Andre Gomez crossed from the left and Daniel Wishart nipped in front of his marker to control the ball before slotting nicely past Sean Thomas in the home team goal.

Minutes later the same combination caused problems for the Stones defence again but this time Wishart’s connection was not so sure and the ball went wide of the upright.

Wealdstone’s Billy Smith should have done better in the 27th minute when he found space to collect a deep corner before hooking his shot over Shane McWeeney’s goal.

Play quickly switched to the other end and United started to find a few openings. Nathan Webb and Gomez combined with the latter sending Joel Jacobs to the bye-line, his cross was met by the head of Adedipe but his effort was well off target.

As the break drew closer, Anthony Morrison found space on the left, his cross was miss-kicked into the air by Adam Ward and collected by Alex Sunasky who fired over from just inside the area. The final chance of the half again fell to the visitors when Webb ran from halfway before feeding Gomez who hit a curling shot that Thomas held comfortably.

The second half if anything saw even less openings that the first and it was past the hour mark before a noteworthy chance as Webb fired wide from 18 yards after combining with Morrison.

United were somewhat stunned on 68 minutes when out of the blue the home side fired an unstoppable equaliser. Failure to clear at the back saw the ball fall to Stones substitute Sam Blennerhassett and he rifled a shot across the underworked McWeeney that flew into the far corner of the net.

After this not a whole lot happened as the game somewhat fizzled out. United had a good claim for a penalty refused when a defender clearly handled but to referee Pardoe’s blindside and ten minutes from time good approach play from Morrison and Webb created a shooting chance for Sunasky but he failed to hit the target.

United’s final chance to snatch a winner came deep ionto stoppage time when Wishart wriggled free of his marker on the edge but Thomas was able to sweep up his shot to make it honours even at the final whistle.
