Hayes & Yeading United 1
Wycombe Wanderers 3

Hayes & Yeading United came out second best in their first major run out of this pre-season as Gary Waddock's Wycombe Wanderers raced into a two goal early lead and ended up victors by the same two goal margin.

Manager Garry Haylock threw more trialists into the equation today as he strives to find the formula to continue the Club's run of success. In was however the strong starting line-up for the Chairboys that started better and just eight minutes had elapsed when a sweeping move forwards from midfield saw former Hayes FC loanee Scott Rendell slide the ball to Kevin Betsy who advanced before firing past the dive of former Watford keeper Jonathan North.

United made advances of their own a couple of minutes later when the ball was fed into Ben Wright who controlled the ball before hitting a shot on the turn that looped over the crossbar of another former Hayes FC loanee in the shape of Nikki Bull.

Wycombe were quickly to find the net for a second time when Marvin McKoy was given space to raid down the right, holding off a challenge from Tom Cadmore as he advanced into the area before squaring the ball to Rendell who had the simple task of beating an unprotected North.

As you would probably expect from a pre-season game the two quick goals left a somewhat flat period of play before with eight minutes to the break the Chairboys scored a third. McKoy and Rendell were again involved with a deft touch from the latter sending Betsy through to beat North's dive to net his second of the afternoon.

It could have been four a couple of minutes later as a Betsy corner was chested goalwards by Chris Westwood but North made a fine diving catch to his right.

With multiple changes being made by the visitors United started to make some forward moves themselves. Jamie Hand sent Ishmael Welsh away on the left, his centre falling to Malvin Kamara who saw his effort well blocked by Westwood.

In the 69th minute United found the back of the net to reduce the arrears. Pierre Dubois was alert to pick off a miss-hit Sam Belcher pass and he played the ball into the run of the Wright who placed his shot into the bottom corner beyond the dive of Steven Arnold in the Wycombe goal.

Minutes later some frantic defending by the visitors keep their two goal advantage intact. Jason Hayne advanced into the box on the right having beaten the offside trap, his drive was pushed out by Arnold, two follow up attempts by Wright were blocked before Peter Holmes latched onto the loose ball, again forcing a diving stop from Arnold.

A chance apiece came in the final couple of minutes, a moments hesitation from United keeper Dexter Burt on the edge of his area saw the ball fall to Stuart Green who lobbed just too high, the ball falling onto the roof of the net. In the final minute, Hayne again broke into the area, this time picking out Dubois but he scooped the ball over from close range.
