Manager Garry Haylock made two forced changes to the starting XI that earned a draw at Rushden. Tom Cadmore returned from suspension and Ben Wright moved up from the bench in place of the departed Charlie Wassmer and Jefferson Louis repectively.

The home side were out of the blocks quickly but thankfully for United, keeper Delroy Preddie also started in fine form. In just the 2nd minute a Danny Thomas cross from the left was met at close range by Lambs skipper Jay Smith, Preddie doing well to block his effort away and Daniel Bradley touched the follow up into the side netting.

The home sides route one approach almost paid dividends as early as the fifth minute when a punt from keeper Daniel Ward was flicked on by Kyle Perry to Stuart Hendrie but his lob over the advancing Preddie also cleared the United goal.

United soon picked up their own game though and just a minute later Adam Green, again playing in advanced left side position, picked out former Lamb Bradley Pritchard who took a touch inside before hitting a shot that Ward dealt with comfortably.

United were to take the lead on 14 minutes when Green moved inside from the left before hitting a right foot cross that saw Pritchard arrive at the near post to touch delicately past Ward's dive, the United man not making a big deal of celebrating against the hand that used to feed.

Hayes & Yeading almost grabbed a second minutes later when Ben Wright helped a long ball on to Pritchard who in turn squared it back to the striker but he was denied by a brave Ward dive at his feet and a defender just got to the loose ball before Andy Yiadom to clear. Wright appeared to take a knock in the challenge for the ball and was replaced shortly afterwards by Elliott Buchanan.

Preddie was quickly in action again when an inadvertent Green header from Ward's long punt fell to Perry who sent Thomas through only for Preddie to make another instinctive save, the ball then rebounded off Peter Holmes, going just wide of his own net.

Just before the half hour mark Perry collected the ball 20 yards out from the United goal, his turn and shot forcing another save from Preddie in the United goal.

Tamworth were to equalise in somewhat controversial fashion in the 33rd minute in a move that came about through a poor decision by the officials at the other end. Pritchard picked out Yiadom on the right, his cross come shot took a touch off Ward's chest, onto the post and wide. The Lambs keeper knowing he had touched the ball lined up for a corner only to see that referee West had given a goal-kick. Said goal-kick was punted forwards to Perry and his flick on hit Cadmore's arm and a penalty was awarded. Perry stepped up, Preddie dived to touch the ball onto the post but sadly for the United keeper Perry was quickest to the loose ball and the home side drew level.

It could have been worse for United two minutes later when a fine Tamworth move involving Thomas, Perry and Daniel Bradley saw the ball moved towards the United area where Adam Bygrave slipped before recovering to get a touch on Bradley's shot which Preddie gratefully grabbed.

Play quickly switched ends though as United put together an excellent move of their own. Green won possession on the left before sending Holmes forwards, he played the ball to Pritchard whose neat back-heel picked out Yiadom who hit a first time shot that was just too high.

United closed the half in the ascendancy, Green and Pritchard went close and then a penalty looked certain when Buchanan burst through against Duane Courtney who stuck out an arm to divert the ball, unfortunately it was blind side to the referee and in fairness to the official he could not have given the decision without an element of guesswork.

The ball was on the spot though just six minutes into the second half as Lambs Smith was adjudged to have handled a Holmes free-kick. Lee Brown stepped up and coolly sent Ward the wrong way to score his first League goal for United. After such an action packed first half, the second was to have more goals but less clearcut chances.

Just after the hour mark Nathan Webb made an adventurous run down the right, exchanging passes with Buchanan just inside the area before taking a shot on the stretch that Ward dealt with comfortably. MInutes later Webb was advancing down the right again, this time he picked out Yiadom who hit a first time shot that almost squirmed past Ward but the young keeper held on.

Just six minutes later United did extend their lead, as the ball was lofted forwards down the left channel, Green gave chase and pulled the ball back from the bye-line perfectly into Buchanan's near post run and the United striker touched the ball past the diving Ward.

Pritchard tried his luck from 20 yards shortly after but was too high and the game seemed to die a little until a final assault from the home side in stoppage time saw two chances.

Two minutes into the notified four extra minutes, Bradley hit a half volley that Webb did well to block into the air, and when the ball came back into the United area Courtney was off target with a header. The home side did pull to within one goal a couple of minutes later though when Perry headed home after Preddie had made an excellent one handed save to deny the same player.
