Hayes & Yeading United 2
Beaconsfield SYCOB 0

Hayes & Yeading United’s first “official” pre-season workout came this evening at the Warren against a Beaconsfield SYCOB side managed by former Church Road favourite Colin Davis.

Manager Garry Haylock took the opportunity in this first game to field two totally different sides giving many trialists the chance the showcase their wares.

It was however the visitors from Beaconsfield who shaped an early chance when a Dean Clark cross from the left was met with a looping header that just cleared Josh Lennie’s crossbar.

United soon found their passing game as left-back Rene Steer found Bradley Pritchard on the edge of the area but his shot was well smothered at the foot of the post by the Beaconsfield keeper who was soon in action again going full stretch to tip a Toby Little drive onto the bar and over.

Still United pressed forwards, Staforde Palmer’s cross was just too long for Little to control his header before a high clearance was volleyed goalwards by Jamie Hand with Palmer getting the last touch into the keepers body.

The impressive Peter Holmes went close minutes later when his 20 yard free-kick beat all and sundry only to crash back off the bar. The deadlock was finally broken on 37 minutes and in somewhat fortuitous fashion as a Lewis Ferrell cross from the right took a bounce on the rock hard surface and went sailing over the keepers’ fingertips and into the net.

Number two took just two minutes to arrive, Holmes’ drive from fully 25 yards was well pushed out by the visiting keeper before being smacked back into the net by Palmer.

Beaconsfield quickly had a chance to reduce the arrears when their centre forward was played through on goal with Lennie doing well to force him wide and the danger was averted by the recovering Ferrell.

As the half closed Hand fed the ball to Pritchard on the edge but his effort was narrowly wide of the target.

The second half saw a whole new United side take the field including fans favourites Adam Green and skipper Tom Cadmore. Sadly the second period was to be disjointed from the off and the only three chances all came within as many minutes before the hour mark.

Beaconsfield had the first effort from just outside the area with the ball going just wide of Jonathan North’s goal while at the other end a free-kick right on the edge of the area saw a Cadmore effort well held in the Beaconsfield goal.

Beaconsfield were given the perfect chance to reduce the arrears on 57 minutes when a poor back pass saw North and his opponent arrive at the ball with the United stopper being adjudged to have felled his man and a penalty was awarded which North duly saved.
