A dominant performance from Hayes & Yeading United saw progress made in the FA Youth Cup at the expense of Welling United at Church Road on a very mild September evening.
Hayes & Yeading were soon into their stride against the Wings and this time early possession was rewarded with a goal. Just 12 minutes were on the clock when Josh Christopher fired the ball down the right channel to Daniel Wishart, the front man beat Wings keeper Liam Barnes to the ball on the corner of the area before turning goalwards and showing great composure lofted the ball over the keeper and retreating defenders into the open net.
The visitors were soon creating chances of their own, Chris Davis tried a volley from fully 25 yards that Alex Tokarczyk casually plucked out of the air and almost immediately the ball was played forwards to Wings striker Leon Farrell but his effort was off target.
Hayes & Yeading then began to stamp their authority on the game as we entered the final third of the half. Leo Cunningham found Wishart on the edge of the area, a neat chest and volley saw the ball just dip over Barnes' crossbar. Barnes was soon required to keep his side from going further behind when did dived full stretch to palm out a Dean Worman header that looked destined for the far corner.
With the half closing two goals in sixty seconds virtually guaranteed victory for the home side. Cunningham started a move from the midfield finding Wishart on the edge, his lay off to Tomas Jansons saw the midfielder loft a shot over Barnes from 20 yards giving the keeper no chance. Seconds later it was once again Wishart playing provider after he chased down a Joel Jacobs pass on the left flank before cutting the ball back perfectly for the on-rushing Jack Todd to ram the ball past Barnes.
Hayes & Yeading started the second half with their tails up as you would expect and just minutes in a Cunningham shot from the edge of the area brought a diving save from Barnes at the foot of the upright. Ten minutes had been played when Cunningham chested and volleyed a perfect ball straight through the middle that Wishart latched onto but just could not hit the target as Barnes advanced.
With Hayes & Yeading controlling proceedings more chances came and went, Cunningham met a Jacobs cross but headed into Barnes' arms, a sweeping move between Wishart and George Isaac provided a great chance for substitute Mark Goodman but he screwed his effort across goal and wide.
Goal four finally arrived in the 71st minute and it was a second for Wishart who having received another fine ball into the channel from full-back Christopher then got a lucky bounce that saw him move past Paul Mbende and a cool shot saw Barnes beaten.
The final ten minutes saw the home side relax a little and the Wings created two chances, Tom Andrews fired in a testing free-kick that Liam Carter reached with a diving header but the ball went just the wrong side of the post and then Carter
found himself in space but fired across goal and wide of the far post.
United will now host the winners of the AFC Wimbledon v Kentish Town tie at Church Road on 21st September.
