Hayes & Yeading United progressed to the final of the Middlesex Senior Youth Cup with a fairly comfortable victory over Uxbridge at Beaconsfield Road.
For a local derby cup match, the action was fairly low key for much of the time, although Uxbridge did make a game of it by equalising straight after half time.
It was the away side who had the first chance of the match when United keeper Alex Tokarczyk needed every inch of his tall frame to prevent Andrew Martin’s shot from clearing him and finding the empty net behind him.
However, United had most of the possession and began to take a stranglehold on the game. The Uxbridge defence was however resolute and it wasn’t until a piece of opportunism from Maccabee Thomas opened the scoring that they were particularly troubled.
The striker collected the ball from Josh Christopher before swivelling and placing his shot in the vacant near side of the goal.
A sedate first half was followed by a second half which very quickly burst into life when Blake Sweet arrived inside the box to fire past Tokarczyk and equalise for Uxbridge.
However, Hayes & Yeading United gradually resumed control and Cyrus Longdon-Hughes capped a fine, mazy run into the penalty area with a neat finish past Ross Thompson.
Thompson easily saved a very similar opportunity for Longdon-Hughes soon afterwards and particularly distinguished himself with a fine tip over from Christopher’s free kick.
Joakim Ehui squandered one chance but soon made amends with a fine curling shot into the top corner to settle the game, although Tokarczyk was called upon late on to keep out Sweet’s shot.
