A strong Hayes & Yeading United side twice found themselves behind in this Middlesex Premier Cup tie before a superb Daniel Wishart header ten minutes from time earned a semi-final visit from Harefield United.

The first twenty minutes of the game saw the two sides really sizing each other up and although the home side saw more possession the United defence was never in serious danger and the only half chance fell at the other end where Staforde Palmer was tackled on the edge of the Reds area and the loose ball ran to Dan Mehmet who
was too high from 25 yards.

The next ten minutes saw a flurry of chances and two goals. Daniel Wishart raced from midfield before trying his luck from 20 yards but home keeper Carl Dennison stooped to gather and then Uxbridge striker Martyn Fletcher ran onto an excellent throughball only to be foiled by Chris Baker in the United goal who was quickly out to block his shot away.

Two goals followed in quick succession as the home side struck first as Joel Binali outpaced Nathan Webb before confidently rounding Baker and sliding home from ten yards. It took United just four minutes to level though as Webb dispossessed Sam Saydee on the edge of the Uxbridge box and as the United man advanced into the area he was tripped by Mohamad Hasai. Referee Evans pointed to the spot and Palmer stepped up to send Dennison the wrong way to level the scores.

Five minutes from the break saw the only further effort that could have broken the deadlock, Baker's attempted clearance of a back-pass was part blocked to Hasai who tried his luck from fully 35 yards but the United stopper had regained his position and gathered comfortably.

The second half was to be more open and when Alex Duffy's tackle took the ball into Binali's path at the far post he controlled and fired past Baker but his shot went across the face of goal and wide of the far post. United's response was immediate as Wishart took the ball from Jack Mullan before finding Palmer, he in turn fed Mehmet but his drive from just outside the area was well deflected over by Richard Frape.

It was only minutes before the home side regained their advantage, with once again Binali beating Baker as he latched onto a superb throughball before cutting inside and placing his shot perfectly wide of Baker's outstretched hand. This time the Reds managed to stay ahead for fully seven minutes, Wishart beat his man on the left before crossing into the six yard box. Dennison failed to gather and as he touched the ball on it was bundled home by Craig Watkins.

Watkins almost had another a couple of minutes later when he advanced onto a Charlie Wassmer throughball but Dennison was equal to his shot and pushed the ball wide, minutes later Watkins was forced out of the game with an injury to be replaced by Josh Andrew.

What proved to be the decisive strike came in the 80th minute, Andrew beat three defenders on the right before beating the first one again and getting his cross into the six yard box. The cross was partially cleared back to the United winger who duly crossed to the far post where Wishart rose to power a header into the roof of the net.

With time running out United substitute Ike N'Zuruba saw an angled shot pushed wide by Dennison and then at the other end Binali was inches from a hat-trick when Webb could only help on a centre and the pacey Reds winger was just too high with his shot.

Stoppage time while not providing any further goals did see a red card for United striker Robert Gradwell who having been chopped down was not awarded a free-kick and appeared to push his marker to the ground drawing a straight red from referee Evans.
